Funny – mine’s gone down (£2m), but then I’ve never claimed in 14 years. Did have one try, but the assessors slaughtered him – quite brilliant.

Principles good though, bulk order and all that.

Flipper? He was a nice lad ’til he got into the show business lark – few years on Aussie telly, then world success. Doesn’t last though – I think he’s joined us in here now, so once again, UKW is the great leveller.

I’ve been to the zoo, it’s really quite nice. Apart from the penguin prison – the urge to let them out is rather strong. The zoo in Edinburgh used to take them out for walks amongst the children, until Harry got lifted and taken home in a duffel bag by a 12 year old domestic terrorist. I never did find out if he recovered after the support sessions. Anyway, today I’ve been in lots of human houses and fixed their appliances and then I went to the pub. On Friday, I’ve got a special treat, I’m going to a conference. It only happens twice a year and I do like a bit of human interaction. And gossip. And beer. And………….revenge…………

I do hope you’re coming Gegsy.

    😆 😆 😆

So……… Continuity check through loom from module would be the next logical step. Leave plugged in at motor end, check for the connected pairs at the module end ( 2 x 4/5ohms, 1 x 150-220 ohms). Beyond that, I can only suggest getting in some pro help.

    Pull the plug first……… :plug:

Re: Zanussi skips wash to last 3 mins of programme

    Kevin,
Sorry to hear it’s dragging on……

Firstly, may I suggest that you contact your original engineer and tell him to sign up to UKWhitegoods? The trade side of the site will no doubt expand his knowledge considerably.

Secondly, it is a common problem with all digital appliances that a component failure, especially something like a burnt out pump or heater, can “flash back” and damage the computer board. Both Whirlpool and Hotpoint appliances are famous for knocking out the control board if the door lock fails as a for instance.

Thirdly, and unfortunately, the machine is well out of its mandatory guarantee period, so the fit for purpose arguement will hold little water. A major failure within a few weeks or months after the guarantee period is often viewed sympathetically, but 2.5 years won’t be.

So choices……. The machine you have is basically quite a decent mid-range appliance, and you have been unlucky in what has happened. The mechanics of the machine should be good for at least another 3-4 years, so investing £150 in the appliance over that time is not such a big deal. Or, you start again with a replacement. Bear in mind that you get what you pay for, and most of us (even we engineers) can’t afford the perfection of Meile. Personally, I like Bosch – decent value for money and good specs; 2 year warranty is attractive to many. However, when the brushes in the motor wear out (3-4 years with family use), if you don’t catch it early………… It blows the computer board. 🙁

Bit of food for thought, I hope it’s some help.

Re: Problem with Whirlpool AWM 820

    David,
The point Martin is making is that most people are washing at 40c these days (or less). Due to the extremely low wash water levels, it is rare for a 40c wash to be detectable on the door glass. Secondly, the only way that clothes will come out warm is for the fill hoses to fitted the wrong way round, ie hot through the cold valve, the cold valve only being used for the rinse cycles.

I note that you were concerned about the heater safety. With the machine unplugged, remove both leads from the heater terminals and meter across – you should get a reading of 20-30 ohms; this will include the safey device. At the same time, check for earth leakage – ideally there should be none.

Armature losing the will to live I’m afraid. Not even sure if the motor is still available – Dave Conway’ll know, ‘cos he’s clever at these things.

Old? If you look carefully round the back there will be a label saying “Property of Noah” 😆 . The model number of the machine is located on the inner panel of the outer door, and also on the upper rear box section of the casing. The odds on getting a manual for this machine are virtually zero.

F4 was no motor action, usually caused by the drive motor carbon brushes wearing out.

If you don’t know how to proceed, please get some professional help – check Repairs@ or Directories for a local UKW engineer. If you’re going to have a look, pull the plug first :plug:

Tacho coil failure – electronics will not activate motor as it is “missing”. Check coil on end of motor.

    Wing,
Possibly to do with water level control? It won’t fill if it thinks it’s already full, by the same token it won’t spin if it thinks it’s full. System works on air pressure, check for blockages and switch operation. I do have some of the binary code sheets; if you can tell me which lights are on I may be able to advise further.

    Unplug before sticking fingers in……..
