ParticipantA slightly cautionary tale this, Dear Reader.
If you flick through the rest of the this thread, you will find that Watermead improvised a brush repair to his appliance. I would refer you to the Carbon Brush post in Public Tips as to why this was NOT a good idea.
Secondly, a post here to say that the motor had blown would have yielded a reply that he could have had the used motor sat in my stores for a purely nominal sum (with NEW brushes)!
Instead, a well made, solid and generally reliable machine has been disposed of whilst in a relatively new and savable state.
It is one of those unfortunate things that people realise too late that buying a branded machine (in this instance Comet) can make spares awkward to obtain! In the trade, we know this and tend to break oddballs – BUT all the good (or manufacturer specific parts) go on the shelf! They can and will be useful later.
As a rule, none of the trade members will recommend the use of used parts, but at Comet’s price for a new motor, in this instance it would have been a worthwhile option.

ParticipantWell done, David.
I should point out that in the trade this job is practically a “gimme”! A well known problem, the only bit you’ve missed is to give the other digiboard contacts a wipe of solder at the same time (saves similar problems later)I assume that the £35 board was for a reconditioned unit? Indesit’s prices for these items can be a little scary!

ParticipantHi Gregg,
Martin will be in bed by now (these old un’s…..). Its the complete inner panel – metal and glass, and at the price is actually good value for money. There are proprietary sealants around which claim to be able refit the glass to the panel, BUT you must get the entire bonding surface ABSOLUTELY grease free. This is not easy, especially seeing as you can’t get Arklone these days.Best advice is to buy the panel and don’t put the turkey on the door to baste it!

ParticipantHowsabout how to drain your non emptying washing machine – ie, stick the hose in a bucket and how to clear a typical filter? If that doesn’t do it, send for UKW……….

ParticipantThese can blow tracks when the brushes get down – flip it over and check. 9 out of 10 time the triac survives and you can get away with a bit of soldering.
I’ll have one stashed away somewhere if you get stuck.

ParticipantThis machine will try to mix hot and cold to achieve wash temperature. The only easy way around this is to attach a “Y” piece to the hot and cold hoses and couple this to the cold supply. “Y” pieces can be obtained frojm most DIY stores, or your local washer shop.

ParticipantLovely stuff – either froths like crazy or forms big solid lumps. Water round here is very soft; modern machines with minimal water won’t dissolve the stuff, older style machines with plenty of water froth like mad.
I usually explain that using a reputable powder is still the best method due to the low quantities required – it won’t pollute much.

ParticipantNice one …….. Bear in mind that being a digitally controlled machine it has an “out of balance” set up as part of the electronics. Occasionally the machine will not spin due to an offset load. Resetting to last rinse and spin will generally get things going again.
