    Re: Carbon Brushes

Selni motor is on the ISE2 and they’re not old enough yet.

Gen Hoover brushes 97916670 £3.45 from Masterpart.

Original post is instructing us to fit these rather than any pattern equivalent.

    Re: BOSCH SG5302GB/07 abnormal noises

Is the circulation motor making a humming noise? It is a capacitor start/run motor. If the capacitor loses it’s ability to charge, the motor gets power but will not go.

The correct way to check that the motor is free to turn is to remove the lid and the r/h side panel and gently move the motor from that end. Power off first, of course.

    Capacitor is HERE if required.

Yup, flow meter (or “impellor jug” in Boschese) will be the culprit.

P/no 424099, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly.

PCB is behind the lower kick panel. P/no is 4812 214 78853. Be very sure in your mind that you wish to do this as the part will be over £100 and will not be returnable under any circumstances…….

17 is the boards not talking to each other correctly. If you you turn off the auto restart, it should show you a different fault code which we may be able to work with.

Size error comes up as 9 – if it hasn’t, leave it.

Bauknecht is a dead duck – you have a Whirlpool with a badge stuck on the front. 9 is a basically a run-away fill valve. Given that you say that it pulses on and off, the problem is the computer board.

Start relay has gone faulty. You need THIS.

130c stat is the one-shot safety, 106c is the cycling stat. It’s tripped, so you’ll need THESE as well.

Stay safe, power off if doing this yourself.

    Re: masterpart prices for SMG993736190R

Dave Conway has helped me out on more than one occasion. For those of you who don’t know, Dave runs spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and the Shop@ link on the left. He has access to just about everything! I used to have an account with CDSL, but gave up on it as I just didn’t have time to check the price of every single part I ordered. Trouble is, they have a monopoly position on some suppliers. Dave has always managed to rattle up the goods for the oddball stuff when I’ve asked him to. I don’t know if he puts a mark-up on or not (he should, just for the speed of service), but he’s very, very good at it.

Having spent some years doing spares myself, for Comet and latterly for a wholesaler in Leeds, you might be interested to know that traditionally, spares were supplied against “the list”. Typically, an authorised Hotpoint distributor bought at 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount – 45{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} if they were very good. Trade customers got 26{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount as the trade price, so a bit of margin for everybody. This is good, yes? Well, in my opinion, no…..

I’ll apologise now, ‘cos this is a pet hobby horse.

List price (as was – now it’s “SSP”) was some nominal figure plucked out of the air to represent a value in the retail market. This is also known as “a rip-off”, IMO. £80 trade for a motor? But you’re getting 26{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off…… Spherical objects. The most basic research shows that motors cost £15-£25 at the most to the manufacturers. IF the manufacturers really wished the independants to repair stuff, they’d stick a small handling charge on (It does cost money to store, pack and distribute, lets be fair here.) and send the stuff out. Turning up at a customers house and saying “£35 for the motor, Madame and an hours labour” will see LOTS of machines repaired. £80 + VAT plus time, doesn’t………

And then there are the jackals who just charge what they feel like to trade and public alike, thus driving the headlong charge into more and more landfill, in search of that extra couple of quid.

Personally, I have always felt that spares should come direct from manufacturers service operations, in the full knowledge that an independent is supporting their reputation by using their parts. Supplied at the right price, of course. As a good old-fashioned socialist, I wouldn’t even be particularly bothered if there was no discount structure, or if the customers bought at the same price as we do. I don’t mark up my parts and make my money on my labour. I tell my customers this and will even wield an invoice to prove the point, if required.

So really, there shouldn’t be a need for third party suppliers at all, if everybody played fair. I know of only one brand who adhere to anything like this ethos, and it’s our own.

    ISE.
