How brave are you? I see Bosch washers every day and fit plenty of motor brushes. I find that there is about a 1:5, maybe 6 that the motor will not accept new brushes – classic scenario is that it starts to ramp into spin and then aborts.

The old school approach (Hello, Martin!) is to remove and dismantle the motor. Clean out all traces of carbon dust – use solvent if neccessary; give the commutator a light polish, even use a fine file to “profile” the tips of the carbon brush to fit the commutator and it *may* be OK.

Otherwise, you will need a motor. Debatable as to whether or not that’s a cost effective repair – part number is 144901, best part of £200 last time I looked.

Stay safe, power off if you intend to do this yourself.

Oh, I just love Whirlpool tech……… You’ve got a SMEG machine (nothing wrong with that per se…). Control panel appears to be labelled “Rinse-Glasses-Bio-Plates-Pots”. If you can tell me which are lit, or even by number left to right, we may be able to sort something out for you.

Gawd, it ain’t easy sometimes. :rolls:

I think enough of us have said “heater” now to let this rest. QH isn’t the repairer, so perhaps he could let us know how this pans out with the new heater fitted.

It also chafes under the turn of the cabinet where the two cable ties strap the loom on.

Despite having two valves, the machine is probably cold fill only. Heater is p/no C00112578 from your wholesaler of choice.

Side tank off first. The fill chamber will release with a pull and a wiggle and can simply be stripped for cleaning, then pull the hose clear.

You shouldn’t need parts, but spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk can supply if you decide that you need to replace anything.

This is the bit that matters:

If the base has water in it, the red rod will be pushing up to work the microswitch and run the drain pump. The usual cause is the hose coming out of the bottom right hand corner gumming up – it can back up into the water level chamber as well. When the side tank empties, water will overflow out and into the base, thus operating the float switch. Strip down and clean out will sort it.

With the power off and some towels down, lay the machine right over on one side to drain the base, then observe what happens if you restart a programme.

4 versions – 1 made by Bosch, 3 made by SMEG. Need 12nc number (the one that starts with 85———- to identify which one you’ve got.

Remove from housing. Lift latches under rear edge of lid and push back. Force may be required. Side panels retained by two screws in front edge of panel.

To cancel existing fault, set dial to a dot and switch on. Start lamp should give a flicker after a few seconds. You can then switch off and re-programme.

However, I would have a look at the carbon brushes in the drive motor as first port of call. Programme will abort if the motor is out of circuit. Article on brush motors HERE.

Power off if you intend to investigate this yourself.

Check carbon brushes in drive motor. The noise you can hear is probably the drain pump. Article on carbon brushes HERE.

Re: Siemens SE25A090GB/21 emptying, but not filling!

Flood protection system is activated, it over-rides all other control functions. The white plastic tray under the machine has water in it, which needs to be drained off. Then find the leak……

Based on your description, I would suspect sludging of the transfer pipe causing the water to back up through the water level control chamber is the culprit. Remove lid and left hand side panel to see what is happening.

    Power off before touching anything.

There are no diagnostics. If the machine faults, an error code is displayed by the start lamp flashing in a pattern, ie 1-2-3-4-pause-repeat whilst running the drain pump.
