Re: clarify wd12 indesit w dryer

Right, I’ve explained it in the other thread, so let’s start again.

A thermistor, or NTC sensor is used to signal the pcb to regulate the temperature. This is not a bi-metallic thermostat. It does not get hot and go click. Remove the device which looks like a thermostat and connect your test meter across the terminals whilst set to the kOhm range. When you warm it up, the resistance through it will fall slowly. If there is no circuit at all, it’s goosed. If the resistance doesn’t change, it’s goosed. If you don’t get similar readings from the connector at the pcb, there is a wiring issue, or the NTC is goosed. If it all checks out, the pcb (being Indesit) is goosed.

F13 is a specific fault, relating to the temperature control circuit. A blown element, a failed safety cut-out or microtemp will not generate a code, you simply won’t get any heat on dry.

I don’t think I can make it any simpler than that.

I do wonder about our fellow repairers. It is actually easier advising the public sometimes. They start with minimal knowledge, but have open minds and will absorb what they are told.

Right – carbon brush drive motor, the brushes have probably worn down to nothing.

General info HERE, replacement brushes are probably THESE ONES.

Power off before removing the motor.

If you’re certain that the pcb looks ok, the door lock may well be the culprit. 5 minutes in and the heater comes on – the load may be too much for the door lock to take. It’s switched by the timer/selector unit, not the pcb, which may be why it hs survived.

Power off if you intend to investigate this for yourself.

It won’t start at all, or it goes so far and stops?

If it’s got the same plug socket, bolt it on and let rip.

    Re: Masterpart web site problems?

I have told that there is a lot of updating work being done on the Masterpart site. Apart from the work in progress, they have an on-going connectivity problem with BT.

I imagine it’ll be running properly in the morning. He said hopefully, looking at the list of parts to be ordered.

The circulation motor on these is absolutely notorious. Have a read of THIS RTICLE.

If you are of an electronic bent, the relay can be replaced. In the UK, Radio Spares, Maplins and the like will be able to match it easily. Got to be worth a punt soldering it – use some wire to reinforce the joint.

Replacing the entire pcb means that you are starting the cycle to failure all over again… Your call, of course.

A rather comprehensive discussion of this very problem took place HERE.
