SMEG-built – usual corruption issues apply – suppressor, dispenser solenoid, motor cpacitor. If they’re OK it’s the PCB.

Which way have you read the code? You should go right to left. 00001000 would be code 8, a recognised code for the display module failing.

This is a horrible job – lid, both side panels off, condenser cover off, front fan off and let the front panel fall forward to get the belt round the drum and motor shaft before the fun of getting everything to line up again.
Save it for Sunday and get an extra air of hands to help.
