ParticipantRe: Zanussi ZDF1640W will not Wash
I had this problem with my Zanussi, sometimes it would start off fine, sometimes it would pump and go straight to zero and unlock the door. The codes would show mismatch between analogic and mechanical pressure switch. Then one day, when it was working, I noticed it wasn’t heating. Previous posters have indicated that problems with the heating can cause similar issues. The heater element was fine, the wiring through the anti boils was fine. I had the pcb out, upside down in the top of the machine, in the engineer mode where it is supposed to heat. No mains to heater (bear in mind the relay switches the neutral). Just putting my test prods onto the relay coil and I heard it click in. Dry joints on the coil pins of the relay! Re-soldered and washing like a hero ever since.

Yes thank you @iadom . It did have the sealed drum like you said. In the end I had Hotpoint out to change the drum, cheaper to pay them that it was to buy the drum and fit myself.

ParticipantRe: hoover OPH-614/L-80 WON’T FILL – FIXED
Had a look at this last night and am posting result in case of use to anyone. As I said the two wires going to the prewash solenoid had shorted together. This had caused nearly every through plating on the pcb track that fed the live supply to the solenoids to burn out like fuses. The Triacs survived. So I repaired the chafed cables, soldered a link across the pcb and hey presto! All ok.
I would suggest any other Optima OPH owners check for similar wire rubs at the back of the cabinet. RichNovember 11, 2012 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Hotpoint WD420 fault lights 1, 2 & 4 ; F13 dryer NTC… #384585richaber
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WD420 fault lights 1, 2 & 4 ; F13 dryer NTC…
Thank you Iadom, I looked at it tonight, the connections all looked ok, but the sensor resistance was only 6 ohms, which i figure is far too low for something whose resistance was meant to fall when heated. So I stuck a 47kohm resistor in there for now and told her not to use the dryer part while i get a new sensor from ukwhitegoods spare parts. Thanks for your help.

Ha thanks Penguin, will dig out the capacitor and order a new one. It'[ll be cheap enough to try. Leaks?? Is this something the owner can look forward to??

ParticipantRe: Siemens top sprayarm no water
that’s an interesting angle, do you know if that’s the case for this machine? I have not let it do a whole cycle i admit… 😳 but why would they alternate the sprays?

ParticipantRe: Can I reduce the heating element power?
while I cannot advise or recommend any action, a diode would be much more efficient that any resistor which will be giving off as much heat as the element. Using a proper power controller (like a high powered dimmer) is also an option. Shorting out the thermostat without telling er indoors could solve it?

ParticipantRe: Bearing change on an LG – tips?!
Check that you haven’t got a 5 yr warranty on the machine. Mine came with a free warranty and I am so glad. It’s had new bearings and a new soap drawer, both after it turned 1 yr old. When the man did my bearings he renewed the inner drum and the rear half of the outer drum. It was easier for him and he got no prizes from LG for saving them money and got the same payment for the job however long it took.

ParticipantRe: LG WM-1280FHD ‘LE’ fault ?
LE means overload on motor according to my instruction book… don’t know how it helps you though, mine is 3 ys old and has done 10 loads a week in that time and still same brushes (assuming it uses brushes).

ParticipantRe: Help required – Fagor Elegance Washing Machine
Hi folks, I am just about to inherit one of these machines, not very old at all but doesn’t spin at top speed. Does anyone know if they use a system like Candy which has the split pulley with the centrifugal weights? Thanks

ParticipantRe: LG Intellowasher 1376FHB
The repair man cometh, Spoke to LG, they passed it on to an outfit called Connect, they passed on to local engineer (wonder if he looks in here? I shall ask him). He agreed that soap drawer needed changing over the phone. Should be here next week.

ParticipantRe: Ariston A1636
What does the panel think about leaving the door ajar when the machine is not in use? May be tricky with the kids about… But I’m sure it helps reduce the mildew.

ParticipantRe: Ariston Margherita A1635 – Paddle/Lifter removal
I’m not claiming to be an expert, but in my experience this sort of marking is caused by rust coming through failed bearings and water seal.
