ParticipantRe: Post strike
its a 2 way street, suppliers can’t send us stuff, ie EMW, we can’t fix appliances. we cant’t pay our cards off, send cheques to pay for goods received, receive payment through the post…everyone especially ALL small businesses who base their existence and profitability via the postal system are losers and the customer loses too by not having a working appliance because we can’t get the parts…no comfort to them and no business for us and many other service industries.

on a telephone call from or to a customer and they use the f word i find it personally offensive, however i acknowledge that f this and f that is common parlance on the tv…i and my family do not use the f word so why should i have to hear it?? when i hear it on the tv it makes me sick, the english language is renowned for it’s wide vocabulary, why are so many usefull words ignorned and its back to basic old english, not quaint just downright obscene. sorry about this rant but i’m strongly old fashioned. 😳

ParticipantRe: Indesit Bearings
to find out which size of bearings you need you will need to get the drum pulley off, not easy if it is bolted on with a round headed hex bolt, and measure the diameter if the shaft. other posters on this site may be able to tell you. if your machine has an external spyder its a tricky job, if internal spyder it’s even trickier!!!!

talked to a HSA person this morning, explained all the circumstances..opinion was…to cover me and my work i’ll get a form printed off which will be worded ..to the effect .that the appliance, name, model, serial no. has been fixed electrically and following the fix has been tested by a registered CORGI engineer and signed off as safe to use..
this would seem to solve the problem as far as HSA regs and guidence go.
how does this line feel with you guys??
if you feel it’s ok would any other non CORGI engineers faced with a dual fuel be interested in this modus operandi?richardable
ParticipantRe: delonghi range cooker
greg, thanks for post and advice.. i will tell customer and corgi guy of the position… so i’ll back out. which begs the question…who will fix the cooker?
with regard to liability…who is liable 1, 3, 5, 10 years in the future for a fix on a gas appliance…is it the last guy who worked on a cooker, boiler, gas fire in the house and then a fault develops on an appliance not associated with the repair?

ParticipantRe: delonghi range cooker
greg, this area of work seems to be a complete fog. do i as a trade engineer fit an elecrtical part to a dual fuel appliance, even though a corgi registered engineer is in attendance, who will do a gas safety check after i have finished fitting the part, ie a function switch, which the corgi guy wont/can’t fit? guidance and advice PLEASE. i know that if a gas fault occurs in the future…how long is the future….1week, 1 year…5 years? then the last engineer to work on the appliance is in the frame, also is it true that if there is ANY gas fault on ANY gas fitting in the entire house then, even if i repaired a dual fuel range cooker , i could be held resposible, 5 years hence for a gas leak on a combi boiler, gas fire in an upstairs bedroom etc etc…this situation has very serious implications…where do we/i stand on dual fuel appliances? 😕

ParticipantRe: delonghi range cooker
helo, i’m not corgi registered, that’s why i had a corgi guy at the house. is there a problem if i fit the function switch even with him there when i go back?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM64
jims right, get a local engineer in to check it out. find one in your area from this site. a proffesional engineer will probably charge you an estimate fee and then its up to you. today i called on a noisy wm64 …bearings collapsed when i got the drum out, the shaft on the spyder was ruined and the outer shell of the inner bearing was immovable. one for the skip!!!BER. 🙁

ParticipantRe: delonghi range cooker
gegsy and the penguin…according to delonghi, the all gas cooker doesn’t have a function switch,,,therefore it can’t be faulty!!!! :rolls:
thanks for tip about the mains block, i’ll get back to it next week.
thanks
