Re: To Charge or not to charge – that is the question

we are all good engineers but are we good busines people… how often do WE get something for nothing? we should expect payment for our skills and we require payment so we can make a living…does anyone know how much it costs to attend a call? never mind the time element.. van costs( fuel, maintainence, insurance etc..) all other overheads, office, staff, etc….. something for nothing? i don’t think so.

suggest you send them a bill which you feel would be fair reward for your time/efforts. this will put the customer in the picture and give you a bit of leverage if a) bosch visit and reapair you won’t get a call advising you of this, b) if bosch turn the job down you can return, sort w/d out and charge accordingly taking into account your bill for prevoius visits.

from a white knight…had same conditions after customer had changed the heater..runs with door open..i found he had put one of the wires from the t/stat onto the mains block instead of the second tag on the heater, extreme right, looking from the top at the rear, its the tag with a wire going to the timer..hope this helps.

the other reaction…working on a w/m…house was a tip…boy about 5 or 6 comes into kitchen, i said please go back to your mum, of he goes, 10 secs later mum storms in, says if he wants to watch its ok with her, well i said its not ok with me! she kicks off…i unplug, make machine safe. thankyou i’m off…machine not fixed, no dosh. but everyone alive. heard later from aquaintance of customer that i was rude, abrupt and left her without working w/m..never been back!!!

mal..you’re right about risk assesment and all of us do it all the time, we probably do the assesment really without really thinking about it!! however we cannot do a “numpty assessment”. :rolls:

Re: Servis 1000 rpm Washing Machine – Filter won’t unscrew

if it won’t unscrew easily then there maybe an object in the filter stopping it being unscrewed. if you can get any movement when you unscrew then by twisting it back and forward you might just work the obstruction free.

see post of july 17th for removal of back half of cabinet,, be carefull if your inlet hoses are short, don’t stretch them!!! UNPLUG…before you start.

Re: electrolux EW 1200 1 drum not spinning

as above..unplug..take top off and you can see if the belt is off the drum pulley..however if it has been noisy and now the drum can’t be turned you may have more severe damage, drum bearings at worst, belt is off and is caught between the pulley and the drum which jams drum movement…top off is the the quick way to find out..UN PLUG FIRST.
