    Re: Indesit IDL500(in the pink)

I wasn’t commenting on the discolouration [everybody else has done that], just on good practice when using a dishwasher. Even though Indesit is at the lower end of the price range a new machine should wash satisfactorily. if you’re getting poor wash results check that the rotating spray arm holes aren’t blocked with food; if they are, take them off and clean them out. the central hub of the arms comes off making it easier to get the bits of food out. Also check that the arms are rotating during wash by noting their position, then shutting the door & letting it wash for a few seconds and checking their position again. They should have moved. If you’re quick enough opening the door you’ll see them stop.

Dishwashers aren’t waste disposal units. I advise all my customers that any utensils with left-over solids, tomato sauce, fat etc be rinsed under the tap first. It only takes a second or two and will improve the wash performance and prevent / reduce long term problems and blockages.

At least the crotch of my shorts [they’re called shorts goatboy, not shots] are in the right place, not level with my knees. :rotfl:

Probably just as well; it would only have blunted the blades.

If anybody’s interested a single room at the Bluebell Guest House a couple of miles down the road [ enquiries@bluebellguesthouse.co.uk ] is £29 including breakfast. My room’s booked and my shorts are packed. There are a few B&Bs along that road apparently.

I went on that training course that Karl ran in 1987. I was working in another type of industry at the time and doing the appliance repairs in my spare time. I took 3 weeks annual leave from the firm I was working for which was one of the most useful 3 weeks I’ve ever spent.
It’s a real shame that first the course and now Lec fridge manufacturing are disappearing from Bognor.

Circuit diagram no longer required; problem is a blockage of some sort, not electrical.

    Morning Greg,
Hope you had a good Christmas. Machine went through its cycle but didn’t take any water in. I wanted the diagram to meter the the inlet valve continuity from the control unit.

Re: What makes door seal rubber turn to grey goo?

Some manufacturers [Miele & BSH for example] supply silicone based seals which are resistant to this. They are more expensive though. I once ordered one for a Travel Inn/Brewers Fayre Miele washer without checking the price first; it came to about £120 if I remember correctly! 😯 Luckily I managed to persuade them to have it done.

Type no LP01 is right and there’s also a model no. A6896 if that helps anybody identify it.
    Thanks Geoff.

Re: Funny pictures… (beware: cookie assault)

    Brilliant idea! 😀
It’s got to be an easier way of earning a living than lying on people’s kitchen floors getting integrated dishwashers out when they’ve put half-inch thick wooden floors down in front and the screed’s flowed round the hexagonal front feet and locked them and they’ve wedged the back feet up on broken tiles and small bits of worktop and the hoses are only just long enough to reach the sink with the machine in situ and it’s a Haier machine so the gears to lower the back legs from the front don’t engage properly and then they complain about getting a bill for 2 1/2 hours work. 🙁

But then there was the old lady last week whose washing machine was dead. She’d checked that the low level wall socket was on but didn’t know that it was supplied from a spur above the worktop which some electrician had inadvertently left off. I charged her a tenner but she insisted on giving me twenty as she was so pleased there was nothing wrong with the machine and had it working again straight away. Sometimes it’s all worthwhile.

    Happy Christmas everybody.
