    Basically heater is across switch contacts of thermostat. If switch is open Current will flow through heater. If switch is closed current will flow through contacts to supply compressor. Therefore either compressor is running or heater is on.

    Dont forget to unplug.

    Just a thought when you say it is left alone it fills up. It is possible if it is waste plumbed under the sink that it is back filling from the trap. When the grey hose leaves the sink does it go up before it goes down to the dishwasher?
    If it goes into a standpipe this should not happen though.

    The white wires will be the defrost heater. If it is open crcuit then the problem with a cold room will be worse as the fridge will take longer to switch on after defrost.

    Unplug first if you are checking with a meter!

    Clipover pipe clips securing pipework to wall/joists could reduce banging. Job for a plumber if you have not done this before!

    This may be a function to aid defrost by heating cabinet.

    I did a board replacement (QER) on a CPCA291FFK that was frozen like the arctic. Compressor ran 2 secs only. Left job and had not heard compressor since only heater after waiting a while.Worried, Rang customer back 2 hrs later and she said was working fine.

    Usually will be a freezer thermistor. Not a big job. Have you tried your postcode in the repairs@UKwhitegoods by clicking on the red toolbox on the home page?

    If it is the defrost timer will a universal one fit? 20 mins every 8 hrs.

    Thanks to QER for saving the day. As Bob said turning to 0 did not stop compressor. Thanks to all for your help. I might actually start making a profit with the help of this site!
