If you can possibly afford to do the work cheaper I would whole heartedly advise you to do so. You may well get more business as a result

One thing to remember Streetlighter is that more business at a lower charge is not always the most profitable ie 10 calls at £30.00 = £300.00 is not the same as 6 calls at £50.00=£300.00 as the extra 4 calls will increase your operating costs ie travelling time, petrol etc
Don’t devalue yourself and your knowledge too much

Just in case you did not see my post which has been lost in site ‘down time’ 😥 . I can confirm that the mains suppressor filter is in the main line between the plug top and machines on/off switch, so if the machine is turned off and the supply trips out when the plug is pushed into the wall socket then the suppressor is the most likely fault.

Yes, to take off the true VAT content divide by 1.175 and it’s always right, simple.

I know its late on a Friday night and its been a week of more *!!!* calls than usual but am I missing the point?, to remove Vat content you simply deduct 14.894{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} from the vat inclusive price

When the fuse blows it fails with a thump (not a bang)

Sounds like intermittent failure of mains in-line filter suppressor, on most machines it can be disconnected and bypassed easily so machine can be run for test purposes.

If found to cure fault the suppressor must be replaced or you could be getting a knock on the door from the ‘men from the ministry’ 😥

    Re: Bernstein!

The Bernstein/EAC debacle continues, today I received a fax regarding spare parts required for out of guarantee repairs.

New procedure is for contractor (us/you) to order parts, they will then fax back cost.
Contractor pays by credit / debit card first, they will then order parts and dispatch when received 🙁

Having already got parts outstanding for four weeks I resent them having my money in their bank for long periods until they feel like sending the parts.

Bernstein were the reason for their own downfall NOT the service contractors.

If EAC do not trust us perhaps we should insist on them paying us in advance for each service request made. 😕

If they do not trust us why should we trust them ❓

I am going to try using 3-in -1 tablets now. I think it must be just me!

As Martin say’s three in one tablets are not the answer, you must still use salt and rince aid in the machine.

Salt is used in the machine to ‘regenerate’ the water softener, using three in one tablets without salt will ruin the softener.

Most manufacturers will not replace the softener under guarantee for this type of failure, indeed several of the makes I specialise in print that exclusion in their instruction books

Much the same as P45, my local cardboard & newspaper recycling collector in my area calls once a fortnight & takes all scrap metal, plastic, glass, packing materials, cardboard boxes etc, he makes a living (somehow) by sorting it out & selling to recycling companies

Register with the Data Protection Agency, no matter how small you are, because as soon as you use the information outside of a personal record you break the law

I recently received a scam letter supposedly from Data Protection Agency asking for a large sum of money to register a “legal requirement”, being of a suspicious nature I rang D.P.A who told me that as an independent service engineer I did not have to register, of course check with them if you are a larger organisation as the rules may be different in that case.

I would use a Y connector although all I have to work with is a cold fill hose that appears from under the floor in a porch! with no way to switch it off. So if I could find a cold fill W/D I can clamp the pipe and change the machine.

    Hi Ally,
prepare your machine with Y piece & two hoses then do as you said clamping the incoming hose disconnect from old machine and then reconnect to third leg of y piece 💡

The new management in thier infinate wisdom are only seeking payment for spares used on job’s completed before they went bust. We had a call from thier accounts dept. today requesting payment for spares used on job’s that we hav’nt been paid for.

Had a letter from Bernstein today saying all servicing now passed to EAC (Cookers & White Westinghouse) no mention of Haier Products however, I see others posts on GDBAR thread it might be BGas, EAC originally said they would not touch Haier with a barge pole.

Letter also offers to supply spares on strict cash with order basis 😕
pity we did not treat them the same and collect payment before making service calls!
