Thanks to all for replies, glad I asked!

I imagine there must be some calculating to do to figure out what amps motors, heaters should be pulling when they are working normally.

I only just got in so it will take me a while to study all these replies but big thanks to all and especially Martin :lesson: for a brilliant pdf. guide to getting started.

This might be of help also.

    Strewth !!
I fit a few a/c units and manufactures commisioning sheets require, pre start input voltage, running voltage, start up amps, running amps, without logging these amongst other info they don’t support the warranty in some cases.
Clampmeters are very useful on 3 phase.
No place/time for cheap meters though.

    Re: New Speed Cameras

Reminded me of a call we went to,was in charge of the first appliance, confronted in a small village where, van was waiting to turn right,a 10 ton lorry with the driver on the phone hit him up the rear, tanker with 38 tons of kerosene coming the other way swerved to avoid and rolled over in someones front garden, driver was trapped by his feet and hanging upside down.
Fuel leakage ruined a couple of acres of land, van driver was in hospital for 4 moths.
Main route from Immingham refineries goes south through my patch and the number of tanker drivers who you see on the phone with a load of lpg, petrol etc in the other hand, can’t beleive them and their companies, had that kerosene been petrol or lpg it would have taken out most of the villlage, sadly it’s still on the cards.

Had a few fines over the years, mostly entering 30mph villages at 36-37 or so,not slowing early enough, thoughts else where, work, etc.
Age is a factor for most, tend not to tear around so much as the years mount up.
There certainly isn’t a perfect solution because we are all human.

I was an appalling driver as a 17 year old in 1964,passed my test but had no idea about driving responsbly for many years. 😳

I was with tiscali before talktalk took over and get the failures like those mentioned and it’s probably slower.
    Might have to change perhaps.

    Re: New Speed Cameras

Spent 30 years as a part time fire fighter in an area where road traffic accidents were more regular than fires,in fact fires were a novelty.
Speed camera’s if in the right spots ie schools, pedestrian areas and black spots do make a difference.I’ve been done, fair cop!
Seat belts, once pulled two girls one aged 10 and one 11 out of a dyke, thrown out of a vehicle when it rolled, seat belts would have saved their lives, the driver of their car was sent to prison for two years,a parent to! Can still hear her screams when she was told they were dead. They lived next door but one to me a one stage, lots of other cases of non belt fatalities and casualties..
I know they are a pain when we are shooting between calls but to remove them would be carnage.
Freeing the living when trapped is bad enough, cutting out dead bodies is an experience you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy, mind you it does make you drive a little more slowly !
Local authority held “horror days” when drivers on the verge of a ban were given a choice to have a one or two day correction course so those with experiences like mine, ambulance, police etc could put the frighteners on them,it always finished with a bereaved relative, couldn’t face those so firefighters usually left early.
Perhaps some sort of collision, accident evidence on learners etc might dissuade a few from reckless driving.
I still have freinds who will have a couple of beers and drive home, they just don’t realise the possible consequences of their actions, hope they never do,it’s a life time sentence.
Boils down to actions and their consequencies, nobodies perfect though.

It certainly is a lonely job at times.
Tough enough when you chose to be self employed, more difficult when you are made redundant.
Hope he pulls through, who knows what turmoil in his life could have led to this,it’s usually a build of things, maybe not even work induced.
