    Re: Fridge and freezer stats

Recently had a two year old Hotpoint larder, model RLA64 it was freezing almost everything.Tried the VXO’s but the fridge was just the same.
The customer went for a new one so I asked for the fridge as it was bugging me. In the end I loosened the condenser and cut a square of insulation 6″ x 6″ out of the back where i thought the phial of the stat would be and found that the metal tube which the phial of the stat pokes into had come away from the evaporator (it’s just taped on in manufacture)so no chance of it switching off.
Fitted VT9 with a clamp and it’s now a good second fridge in the garage 🙂

    Re: replacing salt

Yes it is that simple, make sure it’s granular salt(not table salt)pour it in until it displaces all the water thats in there and you can touch it with your finger, lid back on and put it on a cold rinse or short wash.
Results won’t improve instantly it will need to go through a time or two before the salt doesit’s work.
    Also:
Check filters in sump(take out and clean)make sure spray arm jets are not blocked with food sediment.
Your machine should have had the softener set on installation to suit the hardness of your water, normally you can top up between 3 weeks and 6 weeks depending how it’s set.
All the relevant info would be in the user manual, downloasds are available from manufatures if it’s lost
Personally I don’t rate the three in one tablets for good results either.

You will need a ranco VT9 or a danfoss no3,would think they are available from UK whitegoods spares.Danfoss packaged have a diagram on the back which is helpful to DIY’s.
Soory I’m always putting my foot in it,my team (Lincoln City) were playing away from home with our reserve keeper in goal who to say the least was non convincing so,of course I had a few comments, towards the end of the game I commented that we would have to loan someone for the next match as the keeper clearly wasn’t up to it,the chap said “that’s my son” 😯 .
    Wasn’t you was it?
Just of to watch Lincoln tonight so fingers crossed.
Update : Lost at home again!!

    Mushy bannanas,20 sec’s in microwave,ice cream and honey 😀
    Can you post them 😀
The temps on shelves will differ, put the sensor on the middle shelf half way back, would still expect an average of 4 c, sounds like the stat is becoming “lazy”,maybe worth fitting a new one.

    What’s
the compressor no and back pressure.
    Presume it’s on 134a
Could be non condenseables causing the problem, you can’t be sure of what else (air/moisture etc) went in along with the refrigerant when rechraged sounds like you would have to take out the current refrigerant, pull a fresh vacuum so you know the system is ok and then recharge with refrigerant as marked on the plate.

I go direct when it’s out of stock for a protracted period at wholesalers ,hotpoint have a “trade no account” facility.
It’s many years ago since it was set up but I think I had to send some proof, each time I call I give my name and say trade no account, think it’s just 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount and I pay by card.
Not the best deal in discount terms but when you are struggling for a part it’s another option.
Only problem is 3 – 5 days delivery.

The white plug part is 2600284 if that’s what you ordered,I think that the rast plugs used are not intechangeable so you can only fit it in one socket and not the others.
It may be that the engineer changed one of the others.

Th corrugated pipe that runs horizontally from just behind the red operating rod for the overfill goes to the central plastic part of the sump. It’s a push in fit at both ends, take out and clean,if it’s blocked the machine isn’t taking in enough water and the top spray arm is starved.
    Clean and try again.

I have in some instances traced the fan supply back to the board and linked it to the compressor supply. It means there is no fan delay in comeing on, but it’s a cheaper option than a new board sometimes, have been doing this on many but not all occasions for quite a few years and have had no problems at all.

Always UNPLUG first, it’s underneath, tipping over to the left when viewed from front. You can then remove base.
It is connected between the circulation pump and top spray arm pipe,it’s tubular about 8 ” long.
It is held with a couple of clips which do the same job as a jubilee clip but are permanent and need to be prised off,you can’t re use them unless you have a special tool,a jubilee clip of similar size will usually do.
    Best of luck.
And don’t forget UNPLUG first !!
    Cheers

It maybe that the heater element is coated with scale, the control will abort the programme if a specific temperature rise is not detected in a certain time, lining of the element with scale will prevent it from working efficiently .
Cause could be water softener incorrectly set to your particular water hardness or salt not being added to the water softener often enough.
The heater is a tubular type, can be cleaned but has to be removed.

Are they repairable?not any longer, they are sealed as regards the spring, seal and plunger which are inside the valve, likely the spring is corroded but can’t be accessed so it’s a replacement valve assembly. There could also also be sediment from the water system causing it but again it’s not accessible.

Re: GE Dryer DISQ493DT Belt required

Have a look at the old belt,
has it got 3,4 0r 5 grooves in it? and also we need all the numbers off the belt to try and identify the size, could well be the same as others.
