ParticipantRe: Sluggish Response From WTA
Whilst I was aware that the people involved run this out of their own time which I am sure WE all appreciate along with all their efforts & dedication and notwithstanding that you have now made clear why WTA members will not see a membership card, as a WTA member I was never aware of any of the benefits that you mention Kwatt.
OK so this membership card is bogged down by technology issues and that seemingly no one has time to implement it and its low down on the list of priorities I understand that, but surely WTA should produce a members pack which at the very least should or could outline all the benefits that you mention ? I don’t mind stumping up seventy quid a year to support all the values that the WTA is designed for, but when I enquired originally about this we were told that these cards would be produced as part of the membership the cards which not only serve a ID for all members but also bring further credibility if they were actually in existence, so I do not feel out of place by asking again where the cards are or if they will be sent out to WTA members.
Anyway thanks for answering this at least I know the position so will not need to bleat on about it any further. lol

ParticipantRe: Domestic Appliance Testing
Not only are we ensuring the appliance is safe for the customer but also that it is safe while we work on the appliance. Any court looking at the duty of care aspect should there ever be such a circumstance will look at the working procedures of the engineer or company involved, if they cannot make any sense of what recognised practices should be used they will seek the advise of a expert, if it were then determined that the working practices showed no duty of care I fear the worse for those involved in such a situation. Martin is correct that all of us should be using at the very least a Insulation Tester, Polarity Checker and good visual inspection of the appliance under repair and its associated connection. Thats the very minimal we should be working to and anything less in my view is bad working practice !
A So called engineer once said to me in general conversation when asked if he used a Megger, What ! I never needed one ! and in any case any earth type faults with them things only mean more time on the job looking for daft faults !
I dare say he is not alone in this industry and some go through life without such tools, such knowledge and a whole bunch of luck in their toolbag !

Ha ! You have gotta be mad to be in this business in the first place ! if you ain’t then being mad helps !
I hear what you saying but still see this as a fudge over on the spin issue, if a customer placed a delicate into the machine on max spin and the garment was damaged then that would clearly be the fault of the customer and not the manufacturer just as if the BMW owner drove their car into a brick wall at full throttle !
I feel slightly red faced in the clients eyes that I did not know this but the manual on page 13 makes mention of reduced spin on delicate programs but says nothing about not having the full spin speed choice available on the spin only cycle, that is a omission that could have saved me a lot of bother
They say you learn something new everyday ! 🙂

ParticipantRe: ISE 5 Mk 2
The spin speed dial is over-ridden where the selection there conflicts with the laundry selection. For example, you can’t spin synthetics or wool at 1600 or you’d wreck them.
This is the reason that the spin is lowered and you only get the full spin on a cotton program. The reason factory gave was that they didn’t want claims for damaged items and they couldn’t tell what people would put in for a spin only so, it defaults to a safe option
All of what has been stated above I understand, idiot proofing delicate cycles has been a feature of machines for many years, nothing new in that !The last bit is the part I find odd, why the hell include a control designed to be operated by the user and then make its function null and void ?
If a manufacturer made a Van that had five gears and in fifth the top speed was limited to 42mph the idea of the manufacturer being that they did not want a claim for a accident where the driver was doing more than that speed so the van defaults to a safe speed makes the feature useless !In this instance the user can only use the 1600 spin on cottons and if they wanted to just spin cottons at full spin then they are forced to use a full wash ! Hardly environmentally friendly
The spin control leads one to conclude that the spin speed is continuously variable not withstanding that wool and delicates over ride such a option as would a variable thermostat in this instance, like I said at the outset I have NEVER noticed this before and I had to prove this to myself today by trying it out on another ISE5 Mk 2. I now have the devils work to lok forward to trying to convince the customer of this herself who has had this machine over 18 months and has herself only just come across this Nanny feature.
Thanks to all for pointing this out as I thought I was going mad ! perhaps I am ! lol

mm a quick look at the user manual states on page 13
This program gives a spin at normal speed should you require only to spin some items.
it also states elsewhere that the machine will not produce higher spin speeds or higher temps on delicate cycles,
well thats obvious but that aside are we saying that on a spin cycle only that you are unable to choose any spin speed available on the variable spin dial ?

ParticipantRe: ISE 5 Mk 2
Just found this post from Kenneth posted last March similar issue,
I’m just asking as the 5-2 only does a full spin on the cotton cycles and not at any other point. If memory serves it’s about 800 or so on the spin only cycle, drops to 600 on the delicates.I am gonna have to look at the manual ?

ParticipantRe: ISE 5 Mk 2
Really ? this is weird as I have never noticed this, the thing is even if the customer does a full wash this problem is still the same, ie the washing is wet when the cycle completes ? Surely a 1600 spin should operate if the spin speed is selected at 1600 ? otherwise what is the point ?

ParticipantRe: New Speed Cameras
The thing that gripes with me over all this is, that why speed or safety cameras have been proven to be effective at reducing accidents at KNOWN blackspots it has also provided a huge excuse for local councils and the government to use these technologies to openly spy on the population which they are hell bent on doing. The state want to monitor our every move physically and financially and you have to ask why would any state need to actually do this ? ? ?
Terrorism has given this state a golden opportunity to spend vast amounts of OUR money on this hardware without any discussion with the population as to how they perceive the question of being spied upon. With all these cameras in place the next golden Tax Goose will be Road Pricing on top of all the taxes we pay already.
I do not see any reason why a state would need to be able to pinpoint you to within within 15 feet at any time of the day and night other than to manipulate any data procured to their own advantages !
Its up to the population at large to decided if we need this type of technology, why the next thing will be installing cameras in mosques and spying on people with names like Abdul who have been down to Asda for some Ice ? Whatever next ?

Martin Said
And I say that the scrap merchant on realising he could not contact the DVLA to confirm the vehicles data should not have proceeded with the sale. Instead placed the vehicle in a holding area awaiting DVLA confirmation or told the thief to go away and come back later.
Receiving stolen goods, pure and simple.
Agreed !

ParticipantRe: Fault Code Guide
Would there be no way of getting a team of volunteers together to do this ? Two heads are better than one type of thing ?
A lot of folks here including myself have benefitted from the FCG and the idea is just what the indies need. As regards people having access who have either not paid or have downloaded it from a torrent or whatever we now live in a world where once something becomes digital the world becomes its oyster and I am afraid that will never cease. That said the positive aspects are far stronger than the negatives of this task in my mind.
What we need is a team if articulate people who can have a framework in which to operate. As I have said so many have benefited from its publication and another idea may be to get a kitty running up front. I bet there are more than 120 people on this forum who have benefitted from the FCG and if each were willing to fork out say £ 60.00 each thats just over seven grand in the pot to get this on its way. For each person listed as contributing they get a copy as part of the deal of advance funding, everyone else pays say £22.95 ?
I am not sure how many copies were sold but if you sold another hundred thats another two grand plus the seven grand raised at the outset ?
That should take care of the printing costs, and why this is in the making why not produce a electronic PDF version watermarked which we could have on a disk and use on laptops, iphone, android loaded as PDF and this would serve us all well this way you would not need skd codes and the like.No doubt there is more to this but where theres a way theres a will !

ParticipantRe: Connect
What is curious to me is this, over the last year our spares orders to Connect have reduced by a fair margin, mainly due to very keen pricing elsewhere, not once have our Connect Rep or anyone from Connect looked in or called to find out why we are not spending as much as we were. If I saw a downturn in my customer base I would be finding out why. Same happened with Wash-Vac / Partscentre until we stopped orders altogether and again no enquires ever came as to why we stopped ordering.

ParticipantRe: leaving the appliance in a dangerous condition?
I would serve a notice on the customer that having inspected the appliance in your professional opinion the installation and appliance represent a hazard and danger and that you are notifying the householder of these facts retaining a copy for your records. If this idiot then wishes to ignore this notice and should something happen it will be documented that they were advised the appliance and installation were unsafe.

ParticipantRe: comet
I myself tried to log onto Comet, the DSG group of companies ie. Currys, PC World & Dixons over the holiday, all off line except comet as already described. PC world Business could be accessed but Dixons and PC World both had headers up that they were busy.
First time at the sale and festive season I have seen this! and my take on this is that this is the latest marketing ploy, with the courier and post services all struggling with backlogs after the adverse weather, in all probability the sheds behind themselves with their own transport they decided to create some inertia by preventing people accessing the sites thus punters make their way to the actual stores. Note that all these sites are back online now ?
In this economic climate with VAT increase on the way surely any business would want to attract as many customers as possible by whatever means at their disposal ? Having a site down for updates or whatever would not be the order of the day and with Comet they even had gone to the trouble and expense to have a so called cue system designed ?
Very Odd

ParticipantRe: HMRC Latest brain wave
Thats not what this new scheme is about ! the scheme clearly states the revenue will be looking at as many as 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all Small Businesses even where returns and payments are on time. The object of this is to ascertain if they can get more Tax out of you by uncovering errors in paperwork, receipts and items not purely for your business and a whole raft of other tricks, there out to make money and although we follow procedures which have satisfied the revenue thus far they will be looking at all businesses
Be prepared !

ParticipantRe: HMRC Latest brain wave
Where will it all stop ? This Goverment as well as the recent outgoing lot seem to have spent a lot of time working out ever more ways of taking money from the self employed and Small Businesses.
Accountants we are not but its a sure thing that if this new slant goes ahead they will descend on many small business and find something wrong not born of a deliberate mistake but brought about by lack of knowledge or ignorance.
Its disgraceful to say the least and why the politicians and banks evade payment of tax and fiddle the numbers the small business is a easy target just like the long suffering motorist! When are we all going to wake up and tell them to get stuffed, the french do it we just sit back and suffer it. It starts to make you think seriously if being self employed and running a business in Great Britain is a worthwhile venture. Perhaps it would be better to have a nation of indigenous scroungers who do not work and claim with moonlighting on the side with no books to audit !
Its enough to drive you to despair !
