mm ! I have just been looking around the site as I had not done fully before posting my last remarks, its not as bad as I thought just needs me to get used to it and since i got back of holiday I have not really had chance to give it a fair go !

Mm , The site seems unintuitive compared with the old layout, I find myself continually looking at sections and postings which look like hard work to navigate. Is it just me or are others finding the new site harder work than the old one ? By the way I am in now criticising the hard work thats gone it to especially as this has all been provided for us but its merely an observation on my part.

ParticipantRe: TDS Disc
I was only loading because I have just done a windows install, took 4 hours in all. I’ve found a link on an old thread to the Electrolux site which seems similar to TDS so I’m getting a smartphone to check that when out and about and will persevere with the TDS later. I had Reader 10 running but it had a fault apparently so that may have a bearing.

Thats the thing with a windows install and getting the computer back to its last working state. With Acronis the recovery is very quick and sooner or later every windows system will require a re-install due to speed and booting issues. Adobe Reader 7.01 seemed to be the start of the TDS woes but by Ver 9 seemed able to work as already being installed when TDS was executed. The Galaxy is a great Tablet better then a smart phone but not so big as an I pad or as restrictive if you want a larger screen to work with.

ParticipantRe: TDS Disc
As Martin says TDS is an option on a smartphone, I am running a pdf reader of my iphone which allows access to fault codes and diagnostic routines.
As regards Windows some times installing TDS it gets screwed up on install and will not install after that. Adobe Reader versions can cause this as can incorrect installation of TDS BEFORE installing Adobe Reader.
My advise would be to do a complete fresh install of windows, Yes I know its a chore, configure and optimise your OS, then use Acronis Backup to make a image of that clean install. Next install your software and Things like TDS, Sios of whatever, then make a Acronis of that.
This way you will always be able to return to a given point within a very short time and I am sure TDS will install to a clean system. Also make sure your dont have any Adobe Reader versions installed when you first install TDS other than the version supplied on the TDS disk, I had several issues with versions around Ver 7 with TDS, install the Adobe first from the TDS disk and then TDS. It may also need to be run as Administrator, right click as run as.
Using TDS from a smartphone is doable but having a larger screen is far better than continually scrolling in my book, we run TDS of two laptops, to base systems and TDS live as well without issues.
Lets us know how you get on!

ParticipantRe: spare parts
GIven this situation then, how has this error occurred ?
This company have supplied you the means to operate i.e the Laptop, you have presumably done the calls and listed the parts used on these calls, the parts they have supplied you with. How then can you have fitted more parts than supplied if you did not source any from anywhere else ?
If the situation is that completed job invoices have been submitted which show additional parts other than what they have supplied you with then where have the parts come from ? Can you Prove that you did fit the parts in dispute or does the work contract prohibit you from using spares sourced other from them ?
It sounds a worrying business

I also think that, after first dismissing the tablet thing completely I was absolutely wrong with my hasty judgement. If you ask me, the tablet is the device for engineers in the field for tech info and likely a truckload of other things. A phone’s good and a really useful device but, I would argue that a tablet was better suited to many of the tasks require. When I first saw the i pad I thought mm Very Nice, but Expensive, then I thought actually for the salesman, Service Engineer it would be a great move and I can see how one would use it for such things. I am a Apple Convert no mistake and have a Mac Book Pro, and 8 Core I Mac and I phone, love them all. One of the things that does wind me up is that Mr Jobs will not allow Flash to run on the i phone with now real reasons other than commercial interests at the heart of it. Adobe and Apple do not seem to get on even though Adobe have tried to bridge this Gap with the Apple camp.
As far as tablets are concerned there all loads of other offerings available from Samsung and Acer and Asus. This options are cheaper, more fully featured than the Apple I Pads and for the engineer are the way forward for a number of reasons. Apple started the i pad idea but are now lagging behind some very strong competition from the aforementioned companies. On this basis although I love the design and innovation of Apple Products I would not buy the I pad and would look elsewhere.
Other than this OSX is my OS of choice !

Well we have ISE sold and being maintained but no where near 300, that said we are also in a high concentration area and we also had a GEC group factory that employees purchased Hotpoint Appliances from. On the other hand we have blanket advertising and our business has been at it for 40 years !
I have myself just come back from a long haul holiday and the flights were booked solid with British passengers, lets all hope that it changes tack soon as if it does not there will be some who will not survive.

Having been through at least three recessions this one seems to be having a greater effect on our trade at least in the area we operate in. Now looking at things logically we operate in a area with around 150,000 houses, with roughly about 20 other companies made up of one man businesses and a couple working out of retail premises. In previous recessions our business has always been busy but up until around beginning of May it went slack, last week I had ten calls all week ! with the shop very quiet on consumables and DIY spares. Talking to one or two other local engineers it seems they are suffering as well.
We can blame the bank holidays, nice weather, Royal Wedding, the Cat or the Dog but its way quiet and it makes you wonder what folk are doing as regards repairs or even buying new. Appliance Sales are meant to be down across the board so people are not spending. However go out of an evening and the local pubs and eating places are busy, everyone seems to be booking holidays
so people seem to have money but are selective on how they are spending it ?With the catchment area we operate in we should be busy most days, but currently we are not and I can understand others here when they say they are getting worried about the downturn. iadom seems to have 7-9 jobs per day bring booked one to two days ahead.
Makes you wonder how you can increase your call rate ? and also makes you reflect on how your business is accessible to customers.

ParticipantRe: AWCT10L – D1, D2 & D3 Fault Code ?
Mm ? Motor ? The thing is this machine is outside warranty so customer is liable for parts and labour. I don’t have another motor to hook on to eliminate that diagnosis. as I say the motor meters out ok and the only way really is to return with a new motor and if that does not cure this fault work backwards on the loom from motor plug to PCB. If you happen to have a motor and PCB on hand then its far easier to do this but other than that your relying readings obtained from the components and the service manual gives little clues.
Anyway Thanks, Appreciated.

Yes we are pretty slack at the moment, not many incoming phone calls or customers through the shop. No Rhyme or Reason, I have mates in other trades Mechanics, Gas Installers, Building and Plumbing and they are all saying the same, it cannot stay like it as everyone needs to live, they need hot water, clean clothes, cooked food and having had a couple of walks around two of my local sheds last week they were doing nothing either !
