ParticipantRe: Global Warming – Scam Says EU President
My own view is that the climatic changes that various regions are experiencing are part of the planets weather system albeit one that is based on thousands of years of weather. Detailed weather records go back about 93 years as we know them, or at least the ones that the met office and BBC refer to. Other than that its geologists, marine scientists and the like that can determine what the weather of planet earth was like 60’000 years ago. Those records show that the earth has undergone a multitude of weather spread right across the globe and as such the weather window that we glimpse through is not sufficient to form a certain opinion that the planet is about to enter some catastrophic period from which we will not return. One thing is for certain that as far as the UK goverment is concerned climate change is a financial gift and means to extract ever greater amounts of cash from its citizens, coupled with scare tactics people are like sheep following all the daily trivia that the media put out. On top of all of this I will never understand how a little island like the UK has so much emphasis in adopting all the green policies when nearly all the other countries are consuming power at ever greater rates
but we seem to be the ones suffering most at the greedy goverment who plainly see that by saying they are Green is justification to extract these amounts from us.squadman
ParticipantRe: Slow Carriers
The truth is DHL dont want this work, DHL want to get rid of all domestic carrige and concentrate of International work and DHL are getting rid of loads of their experienced drivers in favour of foriegn cheap labour with a lot of stuff going missing in the process. We had a DHL guy who delivered to us for years, he was proffesional and always dropped with us before 10am every morning every day without fail. DHL started new working practices with there self employed drivers like drivers having to pay DHL when they took holidays, they had to then pay for contract drivers to take their place while on holiday. I particular driver done the work of three men and whenever he was off DHL would have at least three drivers runing his route, these drivers could never get all the drops done and would take the vehicles back loaded with drops not completed. If one of the drivers went sick while he was on holiday they would charge him
money to replace the driver even though it was DHL that selected these unreliable drivers in the first place.Deutsche Bundespost want DHL to concentrate on International courier work as that is the most profitable and they are cutting back on domestic contracts. Sooner or later Connect as well as others will have to find a reliable alternative carrier because if Connect want to charge us for next day delivery and its days in coming Connect may well see a downturn in orders in favour of other suppliers who will use one of the many other courier companies who can deliver next day.

ParticipantRe: FLOOR DISCLAIMER
Disclaimers of this nature will as far as I am aware not protect you or your servants in the event of a claim of damage. You often see such disclaimers to the effect that ” we shall not be responsible for any damage or claim however caused ” which means that should we wreck your house in the course of our business you will not have a leg to stand on ! I am no legal expert Jackel will know the specifics of this type of cluase but whenever you provide a service you have a duty of care which does have legal standing and should you damage someones property in the course of your business then I would say that the client would have success in getting you to make good that damage, that is why PLI is required as if we could merely get clients to sign away their rights we would not need the expense of PLI
that’s why even if a company has such a disclaimer they still have a inspection to see if there servant was responsible and to protect themselves should litigation take place as a result. I can remember once when I had a car damaged at a supermarket by a car cleaning company who washed the car in error resulting in multiple damage to the vehicle and they had a lengthy disclaimer which they thought would let them off the hook. After three years of legal wranglings they would not deal correctly with the matter and they engaged a top law firm to get rid of me. I took them to court and the court found in my favour and the disclaimer was ignored in court and the judge found that even though we had not entered into a contract with this company and they cleaned the car in error they had a duty of care which they failed to follow and we were awarded damages and full costs !
When moving appliances on flooring that is easily damaged it pays to have a square of hardboard to which place the appliance onsquadman

Kwatt Siad:
I’ve had a thoroughly miserable start to the year as, aside from being a bit unwell, a mains pipe has burst in my driveway which I don’t think is our supply. Of course Scottish Water deny all responsibility as it’s on private ground but can’t tell me what this supply is for or where to switch it off, most helpful.
If its a leaking pipe Ken are you sure that Indesit did’nt make it ! 😉

ParticipantRe: snowed in !!!
We are snowed off on Kent today conditions unworkable , radio station interviewed leader of front line services last night who reckoned that gritters had been out all day yesterday ! I was on the road seven hours yesterday and did not see one single gritter working, it’s a fact that councils have not bought enough salt this year trying to save money, now the elements have caught them out and they have been operating rationing of the salt and cannot get enough as all local councils want salt now. Goverment to make a statement about the salt today, when did a goverment ever do that !!!!!
It’s a complete farce, having lived in Germany and seen real bad conditions everything worked there, trains, roads and businesses working normally.squadman

Finally a conclusion has been reached, manufacturer called several times asking about us replacing or refunding. I have told them that in this instance we are prepared to offer a repair with them supplying the parts FOC and us providing the labour FOC in order that we meet our obligations. Turns out it is them who have or are suggesting replacement or a refund.
They have considered this proposal and have now after all this decided to supply their service agent with the parts necesarry to effect repairs.

ParticipantRe: A letigious Society ?
If the only component to fail was the module and the supplier has no record of a surge then your client will have to accept that there was a weakness on the board and the sudden switching on and off of the mains caused the board to fail.
Its possible that had the power not gone off and back on, the module may have failed next time the client switched on the appliance to use it.
Its probably just a case of unfortunate coincidence.
You know Lee it may be a act of pure coincidence that is of course possibe but by accepting that the board may be the short circuit protection is an expensive way of accomplishing what is a simple task.
How easy would it be to make sure all PCB components were protected by anti surge protection whereby the anti surge protection disconnected the mains where the incoming voltage was higher that the rated anti surge design. That would be chaper than a PCB, dont get me wrong this all makes work for us but I just wish if there is a situation where a large surge has cuased the failure of household appliances that energy supppliers dont try and pass the buck.squadman
ParticipantRe: A letigious Society ?
Firstly the location of this incident is in a highly populated area
Secondly the customer when faced with a non working washing machine calls the repairer, in this case us. They say it was working ok until the power
went off and when the power came back on it would not work and they came to the laymans conclusion that it was when the power was resumed that the damage was done. Enter us, having been unable to find any evidence of a spike we order the new power pcb, when we go back the customer has had dialogue with the power company who have provided her with the jobnumber of the fault and have then told her that even if there was a spike that the equipment must be compliant with the regs. Hence the customer calling up Bosch who are going to send a engineer free of charge to investigate, however by the time he arrives the machine has been repaired by us.We will have to wait and see what happens as bosch have stated their appliances meet the regs and if that is the case then how come the machine failed ?
