ParticipantRe: Should I refund the money.
I did ask to see the other engineers invoice which was made avalible to me.I investigated it and found it full of holes ie out of date phone numbers, unrealistic labour charge and a dubious voice at the end of the phone as though he knew what he had to say.
Whilst I accept Martins view of the old adage of taking the least line of resistance, Chris was savvy enough to get a look at the other repair invoice by which all accounts was dubious and I would have wanted to see it myself reagrdless of what nonsense it may or may not be.
Just goes to show that just becuase the customer is always right it does not always follow that some of them will try a pull a fast one at our expense.
Good Luck Chris

Martin Wrote: Oh come on!
We have to show all our customers that we are not cowboys, that we act fairly,
I don’t think that anyone here is suggesting that Chris is a cowboy and I think that he has acted fairly in this matter. Fairness works both ways Martin and the customer is asking him to accept the situation that they have put forward. Its all a matter of trust at the end of the day but by asking the customer for confirmation I cannot see what is wrong with this.
I understand that it is for each to decided how to deal with our customers but Chris has not acted unreasonably in this matter in my view, the fact that the customer became inpatient is neither here nor there.squadman
ParticipantRe: Should I refund the money.
Always a difficult situation is it not, as you never ever refused to call back but the time interval with the weekend caused the late proposed return the customer decided that they would get someone else to call and effect the repair in the process not allowing you to rectify the situation.
Like has been said already how do you know that the customer did actually get the appliance fixed ? Why not suggest to the customer that you have no objection to offering a refund upon site of the repair invoice which shows the labour, parts and VAT.
Ask them to send a copy to you in a specified time period and once you have verified it you will then provide the requested refund.
Seems only fair !

ParticipantRe: Credit Card rules PCI DSS
No Doubt that the companies who operate our merchant accounts are on a push with this at the moment. My view of how this affects small business rather depends on what transactions you actually operate. If for example you have eshops or deal over the internet with card payments then the onus is on the merchant to ensure that all transactions are secure using accepted methods within the electronic industry.
If however you have say a shop and accept payments via the telephone and over the counter then you need only to ensure that the paperwork that is generated as a result of a card transaction is held securely either on a computer system or in physical form. Paper work such as PDQ receipts need to be kept hand for at least 16 months in case they are required and should then after that be stored securely in temprature controlled conditons in brown envelopes for a period of 6 Years !
As for Encyription over public networks one assumes that the live transmissions to and from the central card processing centre are scrambled as the merchant would have no control over such a network. As for net systems they must be secured and regulary tested for breaches. Companies such as 3rd party ones like No Chex, Paypal, and others take a lot of the worry out of data security for those trading on line at a cost which if you are trading on line I think is worth it.

ParticipantRe: Smeg WMI16 AAA Module Question
Hi,
Yeah this is the one with the base plate and the only wires that were dangling were the two red wires that go to the float switch, they looked ok.
I have the serial number and will check it out. Thanks

There’s everyone laying in the sun, knocking back the Sangria and enjoying the view.
Now we know how you get your jollies on your hollies Kwatt, running round checking the local electric supply and moaning cause you forgot to pack your toolbox !
Really you need to chill man.

ParticipantRe: cooker element earth connections
I have often wondered this myself and to be honest I aways reconnect the earth to the element using a ring crimp under one of the fixing screws.
My reason for doing this is that the design of the appliance for whatever reason has such a connection within its specifications and in the event of someone like one of us not reconnecting a secured earthing bond like the ones in question would there be a future issue in the event of a problem which could be laid at the door of the independant repair engineer ?I don;t know the answer to this so have always tried to be careful with this issue. The fact that other manufacturers don;t have such belt and brace designs is curious.

ParticipantRe: A Quandry ?
Mm strange one this, the appliance is mysteriously working for no apparent reason other than the drain hose was wiggled by the customer !
I have had to provide a refund on the ISE but no way around that I am afraid. With the appliance working it is difficult to proceed anyfurther because if the PCB has an intermittant fault the customer is loathe to spend any money to prove this.
Its just one of those jobs that you get from time to time where you may never really know what had happened, mind you I would love to get a call saying that its malfunctioned again but somehow I think that this will not occur:

ParticipantRe: A Quandry ?
I have no worries about selling the ISE that was not my concern, we have been sucessful with the ISE 5. I was more concerned with the circumstances of why the Indesit had suddenly started working after such a weird fault.
I am hoping to get a look at the Indesit later today just to confirm in my own mind that what I have been told is correct and possibly try to find out a bit more.
We will see what happens !

ParticipantRe: A Quandry ?
Well I have had a think about this and have decided to call on the custmomer this morning to discuss the payment made for the ISE machine, in the process I will ask to see the machine working as I am curious as to how it could be.
If they will not let me see it working then I smell a rat, either way I do not see that there is a lot I can do about the situation as it stands.
The upshot is that I will charged this cusotomer a Labour charge for my time and effort and will sell the ISE.

ParticipantRe: A Quandry ?
Mm I have been thinking about this, I am now wondering if the machine could have been syphoning and I did not notice that. The thing is with syphoning problems it is obvious but with a electronic machine such as the Indesit I am wondering if this has somehow confused the PCB but what I cannot get my head around is the fact that ok if a WIL was syphoning then why would the Dryer motor start up ???
Anyone had anything like this before I know different ?
