    Re: Laptops.

I have been using a laptop on the road for about three years, I use it for a number of different tasks which streamline my working time. I have loaded TDS, Partfinder, Connections, Spareslink, Manuals, I also use Access to keep track of my customers, I also have supplier records, Corresponence, and a whole raft of other things that help me keep my pulse on the business. I also advise anyone thinking of undertaking this sort of thing to invest in quality encryption which will protect anything that is sensitive especially customer details and any such Financial details, a good strong password is essential and also don’t forget to password the Admin account as well as your own account if you have your system set up in such a fashion.

With Wireless Broadband access coming down in cost a laptop is a one stop traveling office by which you can do all you day to day chores as you go. As with anything like this BACKUPS are the name of the game in order that should the worst happen it would be an hour to get back to where you were.

    Re: a bit of advice

It seems to be the norm around here that for small operations you can leave a message on the answerphone stating your holiday period and when you will be back.

Now an element of trust arises, if you have a friendly working relationship with another trustworthy competent engineer talk to them about offering holdiay cover for each other. When he’s away you cover for him and vice versa. This way your answerphone message can let your customer know that although your away you have not forgoten to take care of them should their need arise !

You just have to make sure that whoever you choose to do this does not coerce all your customers away.

Have you actually removed the selector switch and examined it very closely ?

The reason that I ask is that I tought that I had checked the selector switch which as far as my initial inspection showed no faults. But when I examined the switch a second time under better lighting I found the problem.

    Re: BT Webclicks

Mm an afterthought, what I could do is stop my direct debit to the BT classification advertsing as this webclicks was part and parcel of that although the money is paid to two different accounts it was still all sorted out wth BT Adversting as one thing. If they cannot collect their money that will focus them.

    Re: BT Webclicks

    Martin,

I had already stummbled on that page and link, the thing the only method of contacting this BT Webclick shower is via their email address, Guess What ? They never reply to any mails, I have sent them two robust emails over the last four days threating to cancel, Nothing, I then sent them a further email stating that I was terminating the contract due to them breaking the contract and that they had frustrated the terms of the contract. Again I have heard nothing !

I am Pi**** off with them and I urge anyone contmeplating BT WEBCLICKS to give it a wide berth.

The problem I have now is that they collect the money for this service via credit card and my card company ahs told me the only way payments can cease is for BT Weblicks to advise them.

How stupid is that ! its my card, its my money. they have to have the say so on it.

    Any ideas ?
