Pixmania ???
what a joke, I would not deal with that company even if they were giving the stuff away. Complicated, Obstructive, Could’nt care less, Difficult,
These are just some of the words that spring to my mind having had the misfortune to deal with them last year when my young son purchased a mp3 player from them and encountered problems.
I had to intervene and they have never heard of Trading Standards, UK Law or even basic customer service.
Anyone buying a appliance from them will rue the day they gave up their hard earned cash.
Buyer Beware !!!

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WD64 Poor Drying Performance
For what its worth if you have checked that the condenser process is functioning correctly and that its getting hot, you have air flow, condenser solenoid operating.
I have had these that have had the condenser blocked, remedy to remove and clean out. Also something else to be aware of is that I have also had poor drying resluts with machines run on liquid. The nett result being that the rear half of the inner drum is packed with a dirty acumalation of gunge which holds excesive moisture and most likely the rear of the spider and drum coated as well.
You can check the air flow from the heater box to the drum by running with the door open.
Good luck

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint mains cables
Something else to be aware of:
We have seen a number of these with the mains suppresor melted into a black mess, my thoughts are that the cable terminations onto the supressors are not fitted securely and thus arcing is occuring.

Don;t forget to examine the manifold assembly as these are prone to getting blocked.

ParticipantRe: REDUNDANCIES AT COMET
Personally I would rather buy from Comet if I had to as opposed to the Dixons Group of Companies, I have a real hate for that shower. They show contempt for their customers and if you are unlucky enough to experience a problem with a product bought from them I wish you all the luck in the world in trying to reslove it.
Comet on the other hand have always shown a more human approach to the customers at least in my neck of the woods but having said that a couple of guys I know who worked for Comet White Goods Service could’nt wait to get away. They said that the service organisation was a nightmare with overworked engineers, bad diagnosis by other engineers, high sickness levels and a call optimisation system dreamt up by an idiot.
So it seems the retail side may favour better then the service enviroment, But Curries Digital, PC World & Dixons have gotta be the worse of the worse in my experience.

ParticipantRe: Is the end of our world nigh..?
Traditionally our trade has done better in times of recesions , I was in a B & Q warehouse tonight getting some paint. By the front doors a couple of idots were piling high Indeshit Fridges at £ 130.00 a pop, Indeshit washing machines at £ 199.00 and the Indeshit moon at £ 150.00.
How did I know they were idots you wonder, well because I was looking at the pricing and machines one of them decided he would canvass me for a sale, Oh he said these are for our January sales, two days ago they were stacked to the roof they are flying out of the door you better be quick he advised !
I told him that I was glad that B & Q were selling this crap, he looked miffed. I told him that I was clever as I not only sold appliances myslef but I also ran a local repair company who could fix all of these when that broke down. I said make sure you sell them all as everyone is a potential customer for me either as a repair or replacment of a quailty product.
By now his sales patter had dried up and off I went with my paint chuckling.
Our ISE sales are doing well even if some people told me that they would not sell !
You have to forge a relationship with your customers and considering that NONE of my customers have ever heard if ISE I am having no trouble shifting them.
Once sold these customers will come to me for any service and advise not to the likes of Tesco, B & Q or the sheds.
Go forth and multiply my friends ! 😀

Go into your local tool shop and buy a pair of 8 inch pliers with bent forceps. You then need to grind the tips down to the required thickness to enter the eyelets on the rear clampband. Once you have the profile you need to ( gently ) bend the forcep ends very slightly to suit the profile so as they will fit into the space between the inner front panel and the clamp area.
I done exactly this and the pliers cost me £ 18.00 it works everytime and takes the cursing swearing and time out of this paricular task which now becomes easy. I also apply and thin application of fairy liquid to the clamp band to help seat the clamp into the right place.
The Zanussi spring clamp can also be fitted easy if you do not wish to get invloved in refitting the original rear clamp .
Have fun 🙂

Penguin,
Have already replaced the valve as you suggested, still the same.
But thanks for your input.

P.S.
If you put the old valve back on, its no fill but the door opening and closing does not affect the numeric display. 😀

ParticipantRe: Yellow Pages
Now that the Yellowpages are hitting the doorsteps I always check my ads as I advertise in three classifications and want to ensure that the ads are correct. Once thats done I survey the rest of the book to see my compeditors ads and who’s packed it in and who’s just started up.
Always a useful exercise I find !. However this year I have noticed that although we have four new comers, several of my main compeditors have scaled sown their adverstising noticably.
You have to wonder if they have a downturn in business or are just reducing overheads in this volitile climate.
These last months we have been busy and lately the phone rings constantly with decent work coming through. It’s always a gamble to knock YP on the head and I will this coming year be quantifying if YP is worth the money at nearly 5k Per year !

A lot been said here no doubt, one important bit of advice not mentioned is that dishwashers can be lethal to the unsuspecting service engineer !
I of course refer to the stanley blade edges of doors and internals along with cavitys. Watch these or you will have claret all over the place. Dishwasher doors stripped down for work can spring and in your haste to catch hold of it you slice your hands to pieces
Caution at all times is my advice

ParticipantRe: Yellow Pages
I must admit that when I require a local trade I refer to the YP, I also make use of Yell.com. This is from a personal standpoint of course !
Now we find that a lot of customers do find us in YP as the area we trade in is highly populated with an abudance of new developments and people moving into the area. These people would not know of us as many of them are not local people. These people use YP and Yell.Com to find traders like us.
Is it worth the cost ? thats difficult to say, often I think that I will do a year without any YP and see what happens, thats a brave step but perhaps necx year I may just go with Yell.com and loose the YP as an experiment.
The YP reps are pushy but I don;t let them push me, I take out exactly what I want based on what I find works for us. I think that the Yell reps are swapped by mandate each year as we to never see the same one back.
The new guy this year came in saying he wanted to understand my business and where we wanted to be by this time next year, he said that he could desgin a new ad that would out us ahead of our compeditors and bring in more money !
Well being the skeptic that I am I agreed to let him try his ideas, after two weeks a proof arived that was laughable, When he came back I told him what I thought about his idea, he said that he would get it re-designed. Three weeks later a second proof arrived which was no better than the first.
I called the rep and advised him that he cold forget the idea he had and reverted back to my own ideas at a far cheaper cost.
Seriously they are under pressure to get the sales up and to say they want to understand your business and make the advertising work is a joke. At the end of the day you have to make your own choice based on your own financial position and commn sense and forget what they say.
When we did use Yell.com they came armed with figures after a year that bore no relation to my own stats. We run and host our own website and servers so I am in the position of being able to raise my own detailed stats. The Yell rep did’nt know what to say but after a lengthy enquiry it transpired that Yell do not raise the stats themselves ! they are colated by a third party !
Any stats they show you could be inaccurate as in our case and they promised that they would sort it out. We have never had a resolution to the issue and therefore I would not trust what they say.
