Re: FUEL PRICES AROUND THE UK.

Yeap, Our labour rates went up today, all companies will increase prices due to the excessive fuel costs. The goverment should reduce the amount of tax it collects to assist business and the population.

Still this lot seem intent on overheating the economy one way or the other but still take their payrises which as we all know bear no comparison on wages as a whole.

Perhaps we are a captive audience.

Why not pop down to one of this guy’s outlets and order a meal and a few beers up !

When the bill arrives tell them that it is far more than you are willing to pay !

What a joke these twats are, where do they ever get off telling people how to charge and run there busineses. He will soon get the message when these appliances start to cause problems and he has pubs full of dirty bar mats and towels, the Health & Enviroment Department would be intrested in that. Lets see how much he is willing to offer then ( Ha )

of course I am not laying blame at your door, Highway managed to get this wrong themselves the previous week even with David having provided the instructions ! What can I say?

My real concern is that we could loose business through it and that is against my religion even if am a Church of Scottish and Newcastle !

TDS is compatable with Vista but has issues with Connections due to the way both applications handle database instructions, there is a workaround which I posted here a couple of months back.

Re: Supply Point Earth Loop Impedance Testing

Something else to consider here, it is evidently standard practice with a certain manufacturers service that should a earth impedance test fail then there is no further work provided until the earth is restored to the required spec.

In essence if the electrical system fails a ELI test the engineer leaves. Is this common with BG I wonder ?

I would not have thought that the reason that ELI tests are becoming common is due to the fact that additional work is being drummed up but it is to test the quality of the earth which a martindale does not do hence the need for a ELI tester.

Re: Supply Point Earth Loop Impedance Testing

My guess is that few of us ‘in the trade’ barely possess a multimeter let alone a Megger? As for Loop Impedence Meter, most wouldn’t have ever seen one let alone know how to use one or why.

An Intresting prospect is it not Matrin?

I come into regular contact with Service Engineers who have been in the trade for many years, and a fair few of them when asked about such tests just don’t bother. In fact one engineer I was speaking to recently replied as follows to this question. Do you have a Megger ? Na I’ve never had the need for one !

It never ceases to amaze me how or why they have come to this particular mindset. Pressed further, What about socket testing and Earthing, the reply comes, what about it ? if the punters got trouble with that then thats down to them !

Mm can you imagine the fun a barrister would have in court if the unthinkable happened ? in this blame and claim world we operate in to not perform safety checks is just leaving you wide open to a serious claim that could cost you your house, business and shirt and what of the implications of public liabilty insurance engaging experts to test any such litigation ? Insurance companies are always looking for a way to adjust or deny the claim and to have it proven that you were incompetent could bring about PLI being withdrawn ?

I have always used both a mulimeter, Megohmeter, Martindale, Clampmeter, Voltstick ( for my safety ) ever since I served my apprenticship in this trade, it was the way we were trained and by using such tools you insure your own safety, the safety of the consumers, and a lot of the time these tools give you a head start in the diagnostic process that our job entails.

As for Earth Loop Impeadance testing I think that I am correct in saying that the all manufacturers technicians are supplied with and versed in the use of such equipment. Personally I am not as yet knowledgable in this respect but I plan to find out more about this aspect.

I am sure this model is a two pole timer, if my memory serves me right ( but please CHECK 1st ! )

it is live on 2 and 2a and nuetral on 1 and 1a, this then should bypass the auto timer, it should be easy to trace through but it is 1 and 1a that close to make a circuit and 2 and 2a.

have a good look first though.

Re: DHL and Their Lifestyle Couriers Grrrrr?

As far as I know DHL are investing heavily in our Eastern European friends, The indiginous staff at DHL are far from happy but DHL seem not to care what anyone thinks.

Our DHL drop man is simply excellent, he is very very good at his job what one might describe as a professional. Of late he is ticked off with the types that DHL expect him to work with. When he is on holiday it takes three drivers and three vans to cover his area. Guess what ? they seldom ever complete the tasks, failed deliveries, missing items, can speak little or no english, unable to read mapping the list goes on.

Imagine taking a job in the outskirts of Moscow ! with 140 drops to do and speaking none of the language, interesting huh!

    Re: Latest SIOS

How much useful technical data has SIOS got on it ?

I have a older version of SIOS and although there are wiring and cam charts which are useful there is not much in the way of fault code or K type sheet information.

Does the current version of SIOS address this ?

    How much is SIOS ?

Had a few like this, there are two trains of thought.

    1. Nearly every time its been down to a motor problem, not carbons !
fitting a new motor cured this fault on all three occassions.

    2. Someone I know who works for Beko seemed to think it was a software
    issue on some pcb.

    Take your pick !

    Dishwasher facia panel £117.00 ?

There has been trouble brewing ever since whirlpool got their hands on Philips. There they aquired a trusted company with a excellent engineering force and over a period of 8 years run it into the ground in the process loosing nearly all of the quality engineers and supervisors that they had. The Result ? They decided to outsource the work and look where that got them, I am not having a go at any of the independants here that may do work for WP, but the since this work was outsourced to franchise the work standards have gone down along with the product and coupled to the extortionate spares pricing its difficult to understand what the next chapter will be as far as Whirlpool is concerned.

They have become an extremely unhelpful company and it would be fair to say that they have no interest but contemp for the like of us.

    Re: Pension funding?

The thing with a pension is that you will need enough in the pot to provide a income. That income needs to be enough to fund all you will need because if its not then you would get no help from the state and will be paying income tax for as long as you live as well as forking out for a whole host of things and you could be worse off than you might think.

My friend has paid a signifiicant sum so far into his pension pot and he will be getting far far less than his financial experts were forecasting and those people are on a tidy retainer as well as large commisions.

Fortunately my friend deals in hundreds of thousands and is not short of a penny or two so this may end up a inconvenience for him. However if you are relying on a pension to provide for all your needs and at the end it does not and in the process it puts you into the halfway house it may be a bad investment.

    Re: Pension funding?

These seem to be common stories where personal pensions are concerned. Its no real surprise though, a mate of mine was talking about his pension when he came to see me a couple of weeks back.

No this guy has paid a fortune into his pension pot and when he recently evaluated what he is likely to get he was disgusted. Its the same for mortage endowments and like personal pensions they are only as good as the management of the funds and the markets. With low interest rates for a long period of time neither in my opinion are sound financial investments and everybody I speak to who has either is dissapointed with the performance of their investments. I perosnally reckon the only people that make anything out of these are the shysters that sell them !

My own endowment is due to mature next year and it will only just break even with a little bit more than was forcasted 25 years ago. Many say that putting money away in accounts that pay decent ineterest and moving this money as and when required is the best way to look after your funds and you can choose when you want your money and how you want it.

I myself do not have a personal pension but I don;t think that I have missed out on much. Life is a lottery and we take our chances, nothing is for certain even that you may be around to collect the proceeds of any pension.
