Mostly agree with others, buy some further thoughts.

Samsung power electronics on inverter models frequently fail, models with brushed motors self-destruct due to motors falling off the tub. Oh, and drum spiders quite are also prone to premature failure on these.

LG are much more durable. Only common failures are worn drain pumps and the Hall sensor for the direct drive motor, with the occasional loose front counterbalance weight.

Interesting. I filled in Miele’s form a few years back for my business and received no response. I followed up by email and again received no response. It appeared on the face of it that they had a system to comply with “right to repair” legislation, but at least for my business, the system appeared to be broken.

Their get out clause may be that I failed to provide evidence of Part P registration under the Building Regulations, we we didn’t have (or require). Part P is of course totally irrelevant to appliance repairers, except for those involved in electrical installations, such as installing new wiring circuits.

It’s called customer focus. Little things like that are key to customer retention. Sadly some UK distributors lost site of that over the last few years.

Not wanting to raise false hopes, but the announcement from Kingfisher states that among other assets, Screwfix have acquired the contracts of Connect Distribution. To acquire the contract without the obligation to honour those contracts in terms of remuneration seems legally dubious to me.

In my experience, the best approach is to turn up at the doorstep unannounced when you are passing. This makes them realise that you are not giving up. You won’t necessarily get the money there and then, but at least a timed commitment to pay online. This never failed for me, although I probably only had around a dozen sluggish payers in 18 years of trading requiring this approach. The only exceptions were a business in administration and a customer who point blank refused to pay, using physical force to push me off the premises. The police spoke to them but advised that as they disputed the assault and it was a civil rather than criminal dispute, without evidence of intent to defraud, they could not do anything.

The problem with a County Court claim is thay unless you have given them written terms and conditions prior to starting work including a statement of their cancellation rights as required under the consumer contracts legislation, the contract is unenforceable in the courts. If they are serial non-payers, they will likely ignore the letter.

Hopefully Kingfisher’s ambitions for Connect are not the same as Wolseley’s were for WashVac in the early 2000s – white goods spare parts in every Screwfix/B&Q branch. History shows how well that business model worked out for Wolseley.

The latest accounts are showing as over 4 months overdue on Companies House, but no paperwork relating to appointment of administrators appears there yet

Miele are usually the cheapest source for new Miele parts – postage free above £15 – although for some parts, ASWO are slightly cheaper.

There are 11 houses with that address. A sole trader I would guess, with used parts to sell.

Homespares is in this category – range fairly limited but service good – ask for ask for a login account with trade prices.

Their accounts are shown as overdue since 31 October 2022 – who would want to buy a going concern that is in default with its statutory accounts?

It’s likely in due course that the stronger team in each country will be the beneficiary of the merger. For the other team, job security will sadly be in doubt.

When Whirlpool took over Indesit, by and large the former Indesit organisation in Europe had the upper hand, I’m guessing due to lower production costs, with the majority of the former Whirlpool organisation in Europe losing out.

I suspect for this merger, it will be a closer call.

This merger makes some sense – Acelik and Whirlpool have similar market positioning.

t will be interesting to see which technology platform wins for white goods, and whether Peterborough takes on the leadership role for the merged company.
