it getting late and going on like this the thread will never end.

you seem to be a bit aggressive behind your writing.

when your agressive you cannot think straight.

ps for your info, a stoner?

    whats one fo those.

im t total and preserve my brain cells thank you.

if you cut out the booze completely, you will feel better in yourself, but that doesnt happen overnight.

this thread is no longer getting constructive.
so if your not going to write useful info and are trying to be personal, it does not interest me.

    Re: dogs

    hi,

    without causing an argument.

i am trying to get to some points which may be useful.

regarding the dog attacks on the tv, it is the broadcasts who stereotype the dogs, when in fact its their owners.

it is true what they say about the dog being like their owners, it is exactly true.

as i previously said, without casuing an argument,

yes i do know what it is like exactle taking on a german shepherd rescue dog.

as i taken one on in 2005.
and successfully qualified as a nasdu security dog handler and my dog is licensed as a general purpose security dog.

he was a rescue dog, and i can tell you now it is a fact that alot of police dogs some of the best in the country were previously rescued dogs.

what i am trying to say is, many people just cannot be bothered to put the effort in to rehabilitate their dog.

dogs do not need the training, it is their owners.

you have to want to improve your lifestyle and want to enjoy your dog. it does not happen without putting the effort in.

not necessarily physical effort, but reading, seeking help and advice, and taking onboard.

anyone who wants to improve their life and enjoyment with their dog can, there is no excuses. it is just born idleness on the owners side.

    whilst on about this, from my experience, which i am gaining every day;

some people expect too much too soon from their pets.

do you have a rescue dog? sounding by it it sound like you do.

alot can be achieved by being loving with your dog, stroking him, patting him and basically giving love and affection.

this creates a bond, and then, whilst the bond is being created, makes training much easier, less frustrating and more enjoyable.

    Re: dogs

i agree its not a straight black and white scenario.

im just doing my best in writing to give some insight to those who it may be useful to.

there are no hard and fast rules as such, and you really have to see it from the dods point of view, the way the dog see`s the world.

humans see the world differently to dogs, and every situation is different with each dog and has to be played by ear with some common sense.

but in general, there are some things to consider.
    for example, there is more chance in recovering a dog when it runs away by;
calling him as if theres somehing good for him. oppose to running after him?? cos he can run quicker.

also, you mention about dogs badly injuring humans, you see it mentioned on the tv and it gives the dog a bad name and mentions nothing about the owner.

sad to say, but these fighting breed dogs who have killed young children, look at these cases as a whole which have been on tv.

the type of people who aquire these dogs get them as an image. the owners also take drugs and smoke cannabis.

its the same as driving a car under the influence as it is bringing a dog up under the influence.

tbh, if i called at a house and i smelt cannabis at the door, i would just turn around and walk back to my van, whether they have a dog or not.

although this is another issue, i wouldnt know how to explain to a customer who is under the influence that the bill came to £xx. i guess he probably wouldnt even know what a washing machine is if he is on another planet.

but going back to the dogs, the owners are resonsible for the baeaviour of that dog, because of the way they have brought it up. and look out for the give away signs of the owners attitude which will be a good indication of the dogs behaviour.

Re: Should I refund the money.

i prefer just taking on the easy jobs, cos i have my fingers in other pies, not just this line of work.

ive seen myself doing a built in appliance taking longer to get in and out than to do the job, where i could of done another 3 free standing appliances in the same time.

so i tend not to look forward to built in models when i get them to do

if you naturally dislike dogs, they know it.

    what else can i say.

if your not a dog lover and dislike animals you will always have problems with them.

some people get on fine with animals, some dont.

but to be fair, it can be difficult to concentrate mendng a washer, if a dog is licking you all over your face lol

Re: good customer relations does it exist

    after reading some posts and getting some replies; i have drawn a conclusion to my question;

there are some younger less experienced engineers with good intent unsure of how to deal with some difficlut situations; but hey, im one of the older twats who was once young and found myself in the same situation.

saying that, because im still learning and finding there is always a another different situation yet to arise, this makes me feel im not such an oldie afterall..

it is a cut throat business…the most difficult part of the job is often the customer !!

one of the reasons i took to like working with dogs, there far easier to get along with and deal with and understand than people.

i see by alot of these posts that some people are also the awkwardest part of the work.

Re: Should I refund the money.

thans very much for the info chris, much appreciated.

im busy finding myself around here.
guess i didnt see the date, but the info i gave may be usefull to someone at some point because its bound to arise again, a similar situation.

i phoned my customer yesterday, and suggested as an experiment to 3rd the tablets she is using and give it a go.

so its just a case of her using it for a few times, i suggested if it goes without a problem for approx 10 uses, using a smaller tablet then i would think that its the tablets.

she told me she has change brands over the last months or so, i did expalin that different brands can be different concentrations.

so we shall see what we shall see. i will certanly let you know

going back to what this thread was about (i think they call it a thread) i saw my customer 2 weeks ago, got £20 cash, then called again twice last week and got another £30 thinkin that i fixed it with re sealing some hoses underneath.

my customer has not complained at all, im keeping her informed of any progress, and there is a good rapport of trust with my customers. unlike some of the ones ive been readin about on here.
one couldnt wait 3 days, on here for the engineer to call back.

some of mine are prepared to wait 3 months for me to call, and at times it is difficult to make an excuse when i dont really want the job, lol

saying that, it may sound good, which i guess it is what i make of it. but any dishonesty and the bad word travels around here quicker than light.

iv worked in the towns before, and tbh, it was easier to rip people off if you desired to, than it is where i operate now.

i guess you learn from experience too, whether you suspect youre gonna get paid or not.

if this customer get impatient, ie i dont bother getting back to her, i would refund her the £30 labour.
but, ive told her i want you as my customer to be happy, and also i want to learn what the problem is with this machine.

after calling 3 times, and spending approx 3 hours or more at the machine, if i added up labour rates, it woulnt be viable for the customer to get me doing this job.

i understand that this repair would take an expert less than an hour, so all i charge is for that hour.
i expalined that to the customer, if it takes me 10 hours, then its because it my fault, its still the rate for 1 hour.

they accept this, and so do i, cos they know i have just returned from the trade after having an 8 to 10 year break from it, and believe me, ive seen a big change in the design of machine during that time, its like starting all over again from leaving school.

thanks again for the diagrams, i am looking throughtem and jotting down some notes.

i will definately let you know when i come to a conclusion.
    regards,
    les

Re: Should I refund the money.

hi, it may be a bit late in the day, but what about considering a partial refund?

i mean, after all, it was you who diagnosed the problem wasnt it?

anyone joe public can do the repair, its finding out what needs repairing.

i mean, for example, give a refund minus £20 for your fuel.

if your customer doesnt understand your point of view and is too impatient to wait,
what more do some people want? you to come round and repair it yesterday?

i thought it was just the women who were impatient and couldnt live with out a washer or dishwasher?

maybe it was the bloke of the household got sick of using fairy liquid??

my charges; £20 callout non refundable
    labour £30-40 depending on job
    plus parts

they know the socre upfront before get in the van, they can either like it or lump it. simple
if they lump it, im quite glad to go out to the beach with my pooch !!

calls in my area living in the sticks are further apart than in the towns. and no maddam, i cannot just call in whilst im passing, i havent been to your village for 2 years, and may not be there again for another 2years. !
