ParticipantRe: customers rights ??
ive had a taste of it with having my front street shop for a few years, and working for other shop prior to that.
i thought about selling on ebay some parts, but looking at the competition and what some are selling their items for, after p and p etc, i decided not to bother cos the margin wouldnt be very high.
i stick to getting my spares just for my repairs now. and at times, if i cant get them wholesale to make some profit on them, i ask the customer to get their own parts and ill just fit them.
this saves me any outlay on bank cards etc, and if there faulty its not my money or acounts they mess up.
some people also think that i am selling the part too much, so if i leave it upto the customer to get their own spare, they know then that it aint me ripping them off.
at times, if a customer is put off my charges over the phone, i tell them to fix it themselves, and if they cant then to get back to me.
who cares? if its a built in dishwasher, you all know how awkward some built ins are, after reading on here. i either tell them to get it out ready for me, to keep the labour costs to them down, or to get the competition to do it… simple.
i learned from an awkward customer years ago, because when putting back his built in oven, there a 1mm chip of facia chipoard come loose, and he wanted to claim on my insurance.
also, another one, aw we all know what floor tiles or lino can be like, when moving out an awkward freestanding washer etc, a wifey wanted to claim off my insurance for her complete kitchen re lin`ed, cos the feet had dug into the lino and the foot was trapped in it, at the rear.
some people, owt for now, like i previously read, some punters think you are a charitable organisation with handouts ready available.

i agree with squad head.
you are not obliged to give a full refund on a part. however, if it is faulty, then you can offer them a replacement and if you havent got a replacement then they are entitled to their money back.
they are not entitled to their money back just because they buy a drivebelt and they say it doesnt “do the job” there wrong. it does do the job if it is the correct item for the machine.
alot of customers think because it hasnt rectified the fault that it hasnt “done the job”
and they know that they should of bought the carbons for example.
but as the last poster said, try and diagnose the problem with the customer and suggest it isnt the belt but the carbons.
that way is less haslte and you hve a grateful customer.
i used to tell poeple if they dont want me to come and and be chraged a callout, to bring their motor in. to bench check it.
but still have to watch when some people know that you know your rights, they may purposely damage the part to get a refund.
thats why its worth checking with them and showing them its not broken.

ParticipantRe: dogs
most dog are.
what alot of people forget is that they have feelings too, and can be afectionate, they will also protect their property and owners, alot of people think most dogs are evil.
evil doesnt exist in animals, just humans.if you can convince a dog you are not a threat to themselves or their owners, there fine.
what alot of irate owners dont realise is if they are feeling angry with someone, their dog will stick up for their owners.

depends on why it doesnt do the job.
an example;
if a customer buys a drivebelt for a washing machine from you because they think it needs changing because it isnt spinning.
assuming the part is not faulty prior to leaving your shop.
they return the belt and say they want a refund
you are within your rights not to give a refund in this case.
there are so many different instances,
referning to the pump in the box unopened, if they want to return it and get a full refund, why did they buy it in the first place?
why are they bringing it back?
if it isnt faulty and its the correct part.?
they want to return it either because that isnt the faulty item or because they have found a one cheaper elsewhere.
what some people do, is purposely break the item then return it to you to say it is faulty, so they get either a replacement or their money back.
so it is best to check items when selling them and show them to the customer that it isnt broken.
yes, what a carry on, thats why i packed in my shop, too many tw*ts about who would do things like that.

ParticipantRe: dogs
poor dogs
you will only provoke a dog by tapping it on the nose.
do you do that with people too when you introduce yurself?
same thing, dogs no different.
if it bites you then its only defending itselfyour fault if it bites you when you do that

ParticipantRe: motor brushes melting?
interesting.
im not familiar with the make, but ive once had a a3060 hvr 1100 burn through a pair of genuine carbons after one spin cycle.
i put another set in, and it was ok.
i put it down to faulty carbons,
the genuine carbons burned out, fitted pattern onse afterwards and they were ok.my conclusion; not all genuine parts are better than pattern parts

ParticipantRe: Your opinions on a small claim….
ps out of interest.
home office guidelines state a caution be ginve for first minor offence.
there as a guy beat up last week in our local newspaper, the offender who did it didnt even goto court, he was given a police caution.
the poor guy who took the beating for no reason whatsoever has a broken jaw, teeth missing and scars over his face.
thas british justice for you.
no wonder there is little faith in the legal system.
it is just another money makin scam business, county court costs etc.
solicitors barristers etc all rob people legallyanother example is the politicians, they all cannot be trusted and their all robbing us the british taxpayer.

ParticipantRe: good customer relations does it exist
well, i dont feel i need to make one tbh.
i guess im just venting my anger a little over the ungrateful replaies from original posters on here.
after spending an hour or so replying to some little spilt neice of someones on here who got her wages late.
they called me a ****head and said the isse was finished ages ago. well why the hell didnt they get back on the thread and say thank you everyone for your replies problem solved now, or something to that effect?
instead i get name called. grattitude for you that is
if his neice has the same attitude, maybe that was the reason she didnt get on with her employer. passing it down in the family i guess.

ParticipantRe: good customer relations does it exist
yeah. im sure glad i dont have that problem, id much rather be out with the dog for a walk or watching tv than spending my free time filling out forms for court, it would do my nut in it would.
