    snubbed by DAD & Portway

TED (Hughes Electricals) offers whitegoods at trade prices, I found them cheaper than the usual suppliers. They have bigger buying power and have been able to get huge discounts on the appliances. You can even apply for credit account.

This are dependent if you near to one of many branches. I happen to live between two branches and have a really good relationship with them.

Re: My new washing machine is totally unsuitable for my need

If the machine is new, perhaps send it back to the shop and change it for something else as you says not meeting your requirements and you did mention this at the point of sale.

Sadly there aren’t many washing machines that can do decent job without going into the expense of Miele.

Re: Hotpoint not supplying this C00118765, offering a FOC c

I have encountered Hotpoint dw faulty door switch, tends to burn around the connector. The dw in question was 2 years old. I wonder if they are seeing lots of them giving them cause for concern? I notice that it has plastic covering on the switch, not seen that one before.

Fridges are not easily recycled due to the insulation so the heat pump dryers don’t have the insulation which I guess go down the same route as washing machines. Perhaps it might worth more in scrap against washing machine?

Hmmm… well if that’s typical real world consumption they’re barely worth the effort then.

    Eddie

This is where the power of percentage come into play in marketing as the savings is in double figures, just the same principle as having a Boxing day sales where everything are 17.6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off and it draws in a crowd and after factoring all the travel expenses, parking expenses which like yourself in the end hardly worth the effort!

I was happy to do the real world comparison in the name of science and for fellow WTA members. Next project is washing machine…oh that what was Which? is there for, ok I will put my feet up then…

Roughly the same time as both are on sensors, The Hoover doesn’t show how long but it seems to be around 90 minutes, the J Lewis starts at 146 mins and quickly countdown and seems to finishes around 90 minutes. The time differences weren’t too great.

    Now ladies and gentlemen…

The results from two dryers using identical load…
The Hoover Condensing VHC681B selected at extra dry consumed 1.7 kw

The John Lewis Heat Pump dryer JLTDC01 selected at extra dry consumed 1.4 kw.

17.6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} difference and this translates a saving of £5.85 a year on electricity.

It’s hard to justify on economic grounds if you are buying from new but I got mine cheap.

Re: I really must not take advantage of customers…

Madmac – The heat pump dryer appears to be drawing 1.1kw of power against the conventional Hoover condensing dryer drawing 2.2kw.

Basically it’s low heat consumption which meant the clothes aren’t as hot as you normally expect. I do have an energy monitor (an Owl monitor) for the house, had a snap shot on how much power it draws rather on price and I cant draw comparisons due to the reason for tv being on, kettle flicked on to make a brew and many others.

I think it’s very economical to use, will confirm when I find the plug in energy monitor. It will be tricky to have identical loads for comparison as I don’t particularly want to wash the load again after drying. My wife will think I’m mad.

Another Indesit washer dryer (2 years old) bites the dust this afternoon (the worse one I’ve seen) and still haven’t come across Hotpoint with the same issues yet…

Re: I really must not take advantage of customers…

The above comments showed that customers don’t realise what they have got especially when the husband bought it. Being a man, he can’t help wanting the all singing and dancing latest gadgets, you only have to blame the Gadgets show.

I sense that it’s a trap that most of us will fall into as the wife wouldn’t know the difference between heat pump and conventional tumble dryer. She may as well describe it as a white tumble dryer in the same manner as a blue or red car regardless of make and model.

Point taken guys, but for me, I think I will see what’s the fuss is about and make my own judgment on it.

I see it as an opportunity to have a look inside and learn how to fix it IF it breaks down. At the end of the day it didn’t cost me much to buy it.

I managed to repair the pcb for Whirlpool dw and the part costed £1 and it was one of the capacitors that causes this problem. Might be worth a punt?

    Re: All makes repaired ?

I tend to avoid Miele for two reasons that they are expensive on parts and I don’t know much about them. But I can sell the Miele appliances as long I have a second helper to shift that 100kg washer.

Shame as I could retain the customers for the repair but with 5 years guarantee I guess they will leave you alone for a very long time.
