With lube, Lee8? I can’t do it that quick without oiling myself up first.

I was offered a bacon sandwich as the owner was frying the bacon and the smell wafted around the house sending my tummy rumbling and quite wisely I turned the offer down, the owner decided to chop up the bacon and fed it to the dog instead who also turned his nose away and walked off. Phew that saved my bacon so to speak!

I was fixing his fridge, so maybe the bacon might be off.

I don’t always take up the offer of free drinks, if the kitchen is clean and the laundry facilities clean then yes I would have a drink otherwise I would decline the offer. If it is grotty, then I would very wisely decline the offer even if it means dying of thirst and I shall comfort myself with the knowledge that a man can survive without water for 48 hours.

Some jobs you slave away for hours and still not get offered a drink – these kinds of jobs leaves *ahem* bad taste in my mouth! I don’t know which is worse, not being offered a drink at all or realised just before I was about to pack my tool box up only to be said “oh, have I not offered you a drink, oh sorry, shall I make you one?” – sadly I would have love to have a drink but it’s too late.

I recently faced a dilemma that I was presented a nice brew with a plateful of biscuits (six biscuits to be exact all my favourites). Should I scoff the lot or shall I leave one behind or just take one or not take it at all but the thought of the biscuits could end up in the bin was too much to bear. So I took the risk, I scoffed the lot! The next day I got top reviews, I think it was boiled down on how you cleaned their biscuit plate not leaving any crumbs behind that matters otherwise that would be taking the biscuits. (excuse the pun!)

    Huh?
Have you read the review? Who would write that? Not an ordinary customer who was stupid to part £1700?

    Re: Caravans!

I seem to recall a family friend who had a talbot car similar to the renault. It was used for towing a huge caravan. The family justified the reason for the talbot as it has a diesel engine therefore should cope. The diesel engine in those days did not have a turbo and my parent’s Peugeot 505 estate (petrol) has no trouble pulling the caravan outpaced the Talbot.

Many years ago, I read an article in the paper stating that the local police pulled over the driver of a mini metro towing a one ton caravan!

    Re: Caravans!

Some cars are unsuitable for towing caravans as it affects their ability to climb uphill on motorways. It’s no good having a Ford Focus pulling a six berth twin axle as I’ve seen one recently.

Re: Legal advice needed… Speed restriction on transit van

Maybe a suggestion that one would produce a sign of speed limits and put it on display in a form of pop up banner at the next WTA conference? Just to raise awareness? There are still a lot of people don’t know of this speed limit and it was only recent as companies were quick to cash in the fact that they can put speed limiter on their vans as it saves them money on fuel bill and slashes insurance costs. Also putting stickers on the back of the van indicating speed restricted.

Because of this it raised awareness and it still shows that there are a lot of private/self employed van drivers are in ignorance. I was one of them despite being a company van driver but then the van I drove was a car derived van (Kangoo then Partner). The van in question was 2002 model and there wasn’t the option to speed limited it until recently. I left the company 7 years ago. I then purchased two car derived van (Super Carry and Partner) and only just recently bought a proper commercial vehicle.

I think the best way to spot what is the classification is the vehicle is to look on the tax disc although not definite but a good indication. If it says PLG stands for Private Light Goods then chances are it is car derived, the other LCV is Light Commercial Vehicle then different set of rules applies.

oooh… where is this button? Have I got one on my tranny? Or is this just for Mark 8?

Re: Legal advice needed… Speed restriction on transit van

Most people did not know this, only company drivers these days are up to date with the knowledge rather than self employed van drivers. I learnt of the speed limits few months ago when I was watching this program on driving school and there this guy in his 60’s with very bad habits and have a vendetta against white vans. The instructor pointed out to him that these white vans approach junctions differently due to the lack of windows and often are speed restricted therefore unable to pitch itself against normal passenger cars. The onus should lay with passenger car drivers to look out for transit vans. It’s all about hazard and perception these days.

Re: Threatening and abusive customer over small thing

I suppose it could have been a misunderstanding however he expects a lot for battered vac. I had to keep the costs down to make the repair viable. He mis used his vac and if I do clean it out, I will have to fit new filter (tank and motor as the original were manky) and hose, this will push the costs up to almost two third of a brand new one. I can safely say that he shan’t be calling for my services again as I will not be visiting again. If you had seen the state of his house and washing machine, you might agree with me on drawing the line. He’s from that culture of people that likes to pay pennies and screw people by paying bare minimum.

    Lessons learnt from that one.
