ParticipantRe: Zanussi zwd1480w – how to remove the drum pulley
Thanks A1engineer, I did try it earlier on but the plastic seems be prone to cracking as there are already some cracks.
What kind of tool to use? I used the handles of the pliers to plug in two gaps as it ‘locked’ the pulley. Does it take a lot of force?
I will have a look at Machine Mart to see if they have heavy duty socket for my super sized socket wrench.
The plan was originally to remove the pulley in order to inspect the bearings and take some measurements so I can order some bearings, but it looks like I will have to remove the rear half with the drum in place and undo it whilst holding the drum which I will have to do it anyway.

I found that if you do wide advertising coverage, certain areas may not give you the quality of work, you need to ask if you want quality or quantity.

ParticipantTop iPad & iPhone Apps
Has anyone used PayPal app? I had a look on iZettle, looks promising then I came across PayPal. I would say 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my clients have PayPal account, perhaps this could be used as a means of payment?
Unless I am wrong, can anyone direct me on how to get an app for iPad to take PayPal payment without having to add a button on the website?

ParticipantRe: Siemens Induction hobs
Siemens engineer arrived to inspect the induction hob. Apparently he was the most miserable engineer I have ever met.
He did parts bingo – replaced two pc boards and still not work. He then ordered another pc board and proceed to arrange a new date.
Stop and rewind…. The engineer was called out to find out what’s wrong with induction hob and was meant to report back to the customer with prices. Oh no, he did not! He just assumed that it was an insurance work despite on the paperwork that it is cash job not insurance. It was outrageous that someone like him seems to think he can just go ahead and order the parts without checking with the clients first.
The cost of the call out was £89, but the cost of repair could be anything from £110.73 plus VAT to £170.45 plus VAT. So let’s assume that he goes for the most expensive one £293.54 inc the call out fee. But there’s no guarantee that it would solve it, there could be a chance that he may have to replace all three pc boards.
Did he not have technical support with Bosch/Siemens?
The cost of new induction hob starts from £300 upwards. So I think it is wise to buy a new one rather than attempting to repair.
Judging by looking at the rest of the induction hobs forum, it looks too complicated and expensive to repair. Are induction hobs unreliable as they may it out? Or is it just too expensive and complicated to fix?
Anyway, the job was cancelled cos it was getting too expensive.

ParticipantRe: Siemens Induction hobs – EH775601E
Found the model number and their instruction book. No English version of it, luckily my french is a bit basic! So I had to look up on the french translation.
There is a fault code list, and it appears that a fault code should have displayed ‘F’ follow by a number.
This is the case of a display showing ‘e’ then ‘0’ while it’s connected to the mains. turning off the main did not reset it at all.
Makes me wonder if there is a computer board fault somewhere. Anyway, I looked up on Connect website for the parts, and Jeeper Creepers – Have you seen the prices?
Goodness knows where do I begin, so I will have to admit defeat on this induction hob. Shame. The cost of replacing like for like is around £400, so could do with some help on finding a induction hob repairman. One thinks Siemens engineer from the manufacturer would do it?

Doing our best. But, like most, trading conditions are tough ATM and have been for a while now.
Same over here too. Didn’t help much as I live quite close to Connect and people can simply (in theory) go over and collect the parts. Also with fixed price repair service – sounds good but it’s the big guys killing off the smaller guys. To make matter worse, the smaller guys can nominate to be agent for Connect repair care in return for their comprehensive knowledge base. Think British Gas is doing the same.
Sometime you wonder what the world is coming to.
I wonder if I am actually doing this job for pocket money, but it’s an occupation (to stop me from being bored witless)!

To be honest, I the guilty one have used the video for training purposes. Let’s say if I am tackling a job that I am unsure, the video gives me an insight and boost my confidence. Basically it is a victim of it own success. And we felt the effect of it.

ParticipantYellow pages 2012 ( is it any better this year )
in my own opinion, they will keep ringing you until you break. They are a waste of time, I don’t think people nowadays will be as faithful to the Yellow Pages even though it is now all web-based.
Customers will simply pick up the local advertiser that comes through the door and ring whoever is in that advertiser. I do know from experience that this methods works really well. You need a patience of a saint for work to crop up.
There is this Thompson Local vying for your slice of attention, just simply register with them for free advert. You will be surprised how many people will ring you from that one line advert that is free. Oddly enough they never pester you, I think they generated their income from how many clicks.

johnnyj wrote:The ones that are just clipped in to front panel and not screwed in to the front panel seem to be prone to failure, also check which motor is in it, the sole motors cause no end of problems like this.
Very observant on different types of WML540, I would’t know the difference unless I opened up inside which I didn’t as I knew the only thing I need to do is to fix the new interlock to see if it cures the problem.
Rather wasting mine and the customer’s time looking to check what type of motor is it, it’s not going to help her at all otherwise it would simply pushes up the cost of putting it right. My biggest issue is down to the fact that there are no interlock available!
IMO – Hotpoint should have recalled the machine if these are such a common problem, as it is the third machine I have encountered with the same faults. It should not have been allowed to enter in the supply chain and yet they are still turning out the same machine. I wonder if they have made “improvement” on the newer WML540?

Martin wrote:Sadly I couldn’t have helped with this interlock. I too have one on back order. Believe it or not even Hotpoint don’t have them in stock, such is the demand for them right now….hey ho!
I do see where you’re coming from by the way on the possibility it could be PCB related and only by plugging in a new interlock would you know that for sure. It’s their problem now…Hotpoint junk…. :rolls:
I find it rather frustrating. Hotpoint makes us engineers looks stupid and now they even can’t get their acts together. What makes it so annoying that the machine is only 18 months old, hardly used by an elderly lady, possible two washes a week. I did warn the owner that it would take some time to get it sorted. She was not impressed, neither was I too! I don’t suppose any engineers would happen to have a spare interlock? Chances are slim to none eh?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WML540
The issue here is that I can’t get hold of new interlock as all three suppliers did not have it in stock. Masterpart, Connect but Qualtex website was out of action. This leaves me no option other than advising the “ahem” customer to contact Hotpoint to see if they have better luck than me, chances are they wouldn’t have any in stock as they would use the same source (?). Unless if you happen to have a spare one and happy to drive up to Birmingham for free or post it to me for free?
What I meant by saving her a lot of money as judging from the forum on the same appliance, most are having the same clicking problems and ended up replacing the boards. Hence it is cheaper for her to use Hotpoint as they do fixed price repair (5 years parts warranty) otherwise I would have charged her for the parts and call out fee which would have cost her more than if she used Hotpoint.
The question is, would she wait for three weeks for the parts? She may get fed up and buys a new machine.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WML540
Turns out to be one of those common faults with interlock clicking 5/6 times.
I didn’t have any spare interlock for good measure to see if it solves the fault but all my three suppliers have sold out.
The machine is 18 months old, I advised the client to get Hotpoint out to fix it as it would save her a lot of money.
