May I suggest take one on first, then the rest in time? It’s like at school, you get bullied by a group and then when you’ve had enough, you swing for the biggest…. knowing if you knock him down, the rest will leave you alone….
I would say lets swing for Hotpoint, afterall, they are probably the biggest PITA when it comes to tech info, and on a plus side, Indies don’t get to worry about their Manufacturer contracts as Hotpoint dont do deals with Indies where as some Manufacturers do.

Agreed Ken, what’s the first move then? I presume we need someone with a genuine technical enquiry for a genuine repair to approach a manufacturer for info and get told to ‘opp it’?! Am i right in thinking we will need a case before any questions are asked to any manufacturer?
Think I need some education on this mission! 8)

We’re assuming that this customer has to be totally unrelated to this trade? If I buy a Hotpoint fridge tomorrow, I now become a customer of Hotpoint regardless whether I repair appliances or not, I would have the same consumer rights as Mr never touched an appliance!
Why should I have to wait 10 days + to get the unit repaired? Just because I’m in the trade 😕 Why couldn’t us repairers act as the customer also? I’m sure a few of us have appliances of our own that we can’t repair under waranty?VillageIdiot2
BlockedRe: Guerrilla Tactics
What we need is a customer to request that an Independent repairer repair they’re appliance rather than the Manufacturer. If we had a customer onboard also willing to ask the OFT why they’re forced to go to the Manufacturer for a repair U/G, rather than use they’re trusted repairer that they’ve used for 20 Yrs…… then that would be a massive plus!

I had a self employed engineer approach me last week and he asked if I had any work I could give him. When interviewing him, he says he works for JTM. Later on, I ask him about his Public Liability, he says “huh, well I dont bother with that”. Hmm, conversation over for a start, but then I ask myself…. How can he be working for JTM with no PLI? Surely they must check? Or maybe not 😯 !

Hi Guys,
Just a quick update for ya’ll, after a small sightseeing tour in a load of traffic jams, the meeting went well, basically, it was a ‘lets meet and get to know eachother’ type of session. Kinda like a first date!! Our case worker, Atonya seems very nice and she and her collegue seemed to show a positive interest in our application.
We were basically given the bigger picture today. Timescales, expected requirements etc. It seems that our COP does outline the primary expectations, but a lot more work is required before we can submit a pre-application. In the next few weeks, I will be studying other trade associations’ COP’s and I will start to compose our own. Timescale wise, as previously mentioned is correct, 2-3yrs from application to approval, so we have to be patient with this one and let time take its course.
Both Ken and I came away from the meeting confident that we can produce a code that will meet the OFT’s standards. Things may go quiet on this subject for a while now, but be rest assured…… The ball is rolling 😀
