    Hi Grendal,

Quoting for replacement of the appliance so it’s academic now, but thanks for pointing that out – even so, the pump is ludicrously expensive

Re: Prima (Whirlpool) LPR602 pumping in short bursts

Replaced PCB only to discover that the combined circ pump/heater was just humming. No blockages and the rotor didn’t seem overly hard to rotate so I assume the motor is just stuffed. Worse still, Whirlpool appear to be supplying (at great expense) separate pump and heater assy as replacements for the original combined unit. Why are dishwashers such unreliable, leaky, electrically frail, piles of junk?

Ok thanks Dave, I’ll try a replacement module I have kicking around and see if that improves things

    Hi Dave

Thanks for that. It shows replacement of the evap sensor but no mention of the fabled air sensor. Perhaps some models don’t have one? Or am I missing something glaringly obvious?

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the diagram – looks like infinity was across the open bi-metal. Also looks like it has a conventional thermostat – that’ll teach me to make assumptions..not!

Might be worth checking to see if it’s draining completely, and also condition of motor brushes

Dare say you’ve already ruled out damaged wiring at the door hinge – I’ll have to say it sounds too consistent a fault to be that, but who knows?

Customer spoke to a ‘Smeg approved technician’ who confirmed that the control module was most likely faulty and that repair would be costly. Customer satisfied that I didn’t damage his machine and has offered to pay my call out and time on site.

    Hi Stratfordgirl,

Thanks for your advice, I’ll call tomorrow to see if I can go back to inspect. It had occurred to me that perhaps I’d transposed the NTC connections at the rear of the tub. However I think it pretty unlikely given the likely different lengths of lead and different connector profiles, but I dare say it’s possible. But I prefer the sticking relay scenario.

    Hi Dave,

    Wasn’t particularly gunked up.

Thinking about it, the heat exchanger only seemed to be about one quarter full during the wash cycle – I think it’s supposed to be full. According to the user manual, on a quick wash it does a 45C wash, rinse, and then a rinse aid rinse at 45C
