ParticipantRe: Gold Star Award/NVQ Alternative
Sign me up for that Bryan! Quite agree with your stand on this, I have just sent Mr. CORGIE £200.00 for the pleasure of carrying out the job i have for the last 25 years, so all i need is some other goverment body to milk me dry for the pleasure of working.
What other trades have to pay for the pleasure to carry out the work they do?
I recon we should make a stand and tell them where to shuv there NVQ.
Same old story bloody great hammer to crack a little nut.
Why dont her majisty’s bods crack down on the cowboys direct instead of fannying around with the rest of us.
There got that load off! 😉

ParticipantRe: Fixed Rates
Reading the above with interest and totally agree, i don’t do work for third parties as Ken says they want you to do it for next to nothing.
I do understand it is the life line that some busnesses depend on to survive but if all the independant businesses stopped doing the third party work, surely the wp’s and others would cave in within a week to meet reasonable rates for the work carried out.
In short the wp’s etc are parasites living off the independant business because they can’t fix the appliances them selves.
They are non producers if they were not there joe public would call their locall engineer them selves.
The way i run my business is to offer good service at a fair price.
Cheers
John.

Hi Walnut, would use 6mm cable for any thing above 9kw,rule of thumb says 1.5mm per 3kw.

If you have to replace the pcb how much are you going to charge the customer? Normally the module is over £100 and then the labour is on top.and i know that indesit model is about £200.Do you think is it worth your time?Regards
Hi,would not recommend replacing pcb if it did cost half the cost of a new machine, as stated above the price of the part and £35.00 labour would be a reasonable repair IMO.

ParticipantRe: Average Profit
Thanks for the replies guys, I recon i could get away with £20-£30 more.
Like you say I deliver service with a smile 🙂 as well as some poor quality jokes along the way 🙁 customers always seem pleased with appliances and service, so to charge a little more would not upset them too much i recon.John.
