Re: Hygena 8224 dish washer – How are front panels fitted

Thanks guys (that was quick!). However, what I see doesn’t quite match what you say. The inner door has 4 holes about and inch by 1/2 inch which take the clips. The door has no other holes, fixings or places where screws can go through from the inner door. Also, the screws inside the inner door don’t appear to be able to change the way the outer door is gripped. They just hold the inner stainless layer to the white outside layer which the door then attaches to.

The usual way that these doors are fitted are that the clips face downwards so that they sit into the holders in the d/w door and then they have a couple of longer screws that go through the d/w door itself and then into the door panel,if the door panel has got 2 strips of plastic approx 4″ in either side of the panel then they are secured by 2 screws on the door on the d/w causing them to clamp onto this plastic thus holding it still.

    Re: Why do Customers ……….

I am going to show my age. As a young lad I attended a Hoover Keymatic model 3226. The customer had the machine in the bathroom and connected it to the bath taps with those bayonet tap adaptors.

The mains plug had been removed and an adaptor had been fitted so that it could be plugged in to the overhead lamp socket. (Some old houses in Birmingham used to have the twisted cord type flex hanging from the ceiling rose, even in the bathroom.) The earth lead was left hanging out and unconnected. (When I called I told the customer that I would not reconnect the appliance as the installation was dangerous. I might as well have asked for Aston Villa to become top of the First Division. There was a better chance of that than of the customer listening to what I said.)

The washer was approximately 3 years old and had always vibrated very badly when spinning and so they fitted brackets through the wall into the adjoining kitchen and cemented them in place. They then bolted the washing machine to the brackets. All was well for three weeks until during a violent spell of spinning the washer lurched forward and removed half the wall as it walked across the bathroom. The owner’s Grandmother was sitting on the loo at the time and became trapped between the loose bricks and the cistern.

I was called to find out why the machine had tried to emulate a child on a Space Hopper. After I had removed the wall brackets and several bricks and the few remaining screws holding the back panel I discovered, which was no great surprise, that the two, very strong, steel transit bars were still bolted to the chassis. (In those ancient days washing machines had chassis like cars used to have.)

I do not remember if I was paid for the call because whilst I was removing the transit bars a gentleman arrived from the Council and made us evacuate the building. The wall, that had been there, was part of the supporting structure of the chimney breast. The rear of the house was sebsequently demolished and rebuilt.

The story didn’t even make the local news but I think there should have been headlines in the Birmingham Post “FAMILY HOME DEMOLISHED AS WASHING MACHINE BOUNCES OUT OF CONTROL”.

Appiances were well built in those days.

There’s no plate anywhere I can see unless its on the bottom.
There are however two barcode stickers on the back and a sticker with some numbers on the side of the door. In case these are what you want – here are the details:

    Model: Zanussi DWS 949
    Prod No: 911884001
    Ser No: 91640080
    Type: 911 N81.2F

Just give me a number to call and I do so straight away.

Sorry for the delay in answering but I am disabled an I had to wait for someone to come in and move it to look behind. As it was, I didn’t need to!! 😀

    Thanks
    Phil

Re: Maxol Majestic Duo – Electronic timer

As it’s a double cavity, is it fitted as built in or under counter, the two appliances are different sizes ?

Built in is when it’s “up in the air” (at eye level) etc. A double cavity built under (under the worktop) is a rarer breed of appliance and the replacements will be more limited.

As I feared. And yes, there was a whole saga of CORGI registered gas fitters dicsonnecting, reconnecting, replumbing etc earlier in the week. That was why I was hoping to avoid the expense of a whole new cooker. Can anyone suggest a good, reliable, cheap equivalent (fitted double oven and grill with automatic timer)?

Re: Maxol Majestic Duo – Electronic timer

I also have the same oven. But I need a new unit for the controls and regulators etc. Apparently it is all one unit, and I have gas leaking form mine.

I do not have a manual of part numbers, so may be left with needing to buy a whole new oven – ouch!

    Any ideas?
