    Re: Smeg Dishwasher fault

Yes – I’m beginning to think that I may be cutting off my nose to spite my face here!

Looking around – I can get a new integrated dishwasher for around £300 (or more!) – but when I then add the hassle of fitting it (taking off plinths and doors as well as the actual fitting) I am beginning to believe that I should pay for the new controller.

I guess it’s all down to luck in the end. What are the chances of something else failing in the short term on the Smeg, vs the cost difference of a new machine?

Thanks to all for their advice.

Re: Liebherr refrigerator not cold enough!

Thanks guys – I shall try both suggestions. The fridge sits on a worksurface with a cupboard above it, so it is pretty boxed in admittedly. It is also right next to a large window which sees the sun from midday onwards, albeit behind a blind. It may seem like a stupid question, but how can I improve ventilation? Can you buy (quiet!) fans for this sort of thing?

I don’t know how standard these things are, but the thermostat which I replaced (needlessly it would seem) sits on the right side of the fridge where the light is and there was a 80cm(?) maleable thermocouple which pushed into the casing and presumably goes around the back of the unit. I will check out the sponginess of the backplate!

Have a look at the inside at the rear of the fridge and check that you do have a small coating of ice,if not gently press against the white panel assembly,if this has a sort of sponge effect it may be that the rear liner has come away from the evaperator plate which the thermostat is next to and this can cause the problem that you have.

    Re: Westinghouse WM bearings

this appliance is either a MERLONI (SERVIS OR AN ARI SILTAL) appliance if my memory serves me.dependent on the age of the appliance.if its under 2 years old it should be a ARI SILTAL the bearings & seals should be available from A.I.S. if you quote that its a caple,if its an older one then it’ll be a merloni branded appliance.

    K

    I appreciate your reply.

Just to bring you upto date – we called out the official Smeg service representative – £65 call charge (though no further charge if repairable on the day).

Diagnosed as a faulty controller, replacement cost £160 + £8 carriage (not carried in kit of spares).

To me this is outrageous – but perhaps I am out of date. Bottom line is that given a fixed call-out charge, there is no incentive for the engineer to do anything other than diagnose the most expensive part possible as a failure, and then fix it in 5 minutes (his estimate!).

How can we have any trust in this?

Consequently we are now looking for a cheap (ish) reliable fully integrated dishwasher (full size) – any recommendations gratefully received.

    Re: BLOOD!!!!

The problem with wearing these overshoes in majority of customers houses is that most kitchens now have laminate or tiled flooring and when wearing these its like skating on ice, there fine if your careful on carpet but your still capable of slipping easily even on carpet.the subject of insurance pops its head up again.

Midnight, come in to find the washing machine is locked shut with wet school uniforms inside. It’s flashing F-05. Thank god for this site. I’ve just spent a soggy half hour emptying the machine and releasing the bit of leggo that had jamed the pump. There is a certain 10 year old that will be grounded tomorrow!

    Re: Indesit WG1130T

this may be caused by the appliance not being able to heat the water during wash, try it on a cold wash and see if it goes through ok,if it does then i suspect a fault on the thermostat or heater assembly, you will need to arrange for a engineer to carry out these repairs.

    Re: HOOVER SIX AAA WHISPER

I suspect its the way you have plumbed the appliance into the waste.

all washing machines should be fitted with its own waste pipe and trap assembly and the waste from the washing machine should be a max 6-10 inches into this down pipe to stop any syphoning back into the appliance.

another option is to carry out a boil wash at least once a week to kill bacteria which will grow faster now that the new powders dont carry any bleaches or phosphates which used to keep most of the appliances clean during normal use.

    hope this helps

I too have had a problem with the power and then the machine not working! You can set the machine to the programme(1-4) and it fills with water and then just stops, doesn’t do anything. I can then turn it to programme 5 and the machine works fine. Any ideas to the problem, or anywhere that I might be able to get a hold of the manual???

    Thanks,
    Shaun.
