Alex, you’re spot on. The bastards basically want employed engineers and want independents to run under the same regime and bloody well fund it as well up front and THEN lose money and time on top. Somehow I think not!Not only that, as I said (or at least alluded to in the rumour mill) they will drop these poor buggers the minute that they can recruit new engineers or the workloads drop back to a level that they can cope with.
K.The above is why I posted what I did in the rumour mill. I’d change the above to “drop back to a level they THINK that they could cope with”
I’m sure nobody is stupid enough to go for it, but just in case I thought I’d remind them that they will jeopardise their entire business if they do. As I’m sure Del & a couple of others will testify, they will bleed the agent/franchisee dry & move on.

Most certainly short term. they aint giving nothing away.
They may well approach 3rd party work providers to help them out. Meaning the likes of CDSL or ISDA. All very well but this will only be whilst it suits them. Once Hotperloni see the light at the end of the tunnel, all the work will creep back to their own in-house service. In the interim, us poor agents will be stretched to the limit, which will reflect upon us and the service providers. At the end of all that, the likes of Hotperloni will move on and leave us to sort out the spoils.
The only way they could court these work providers is to guarantee they will stay with them and moreover, to provide a realistic rate. However, there are some of us out there who would not entertain this work under any conditions; so much so they may consider resigning from the W.P’s. That will leave said work providers with serious gaps in their cover.
I sincerely hope that no-body in their right mind is contemplating this work. They made their bed when they ditched their agents, now they have to lie in it.
There, I feel better now.

All done from the front, through the porthole. Not too bad a job, but once your fingers start to ache, things are not easy.
I assume the circular spring has popped out along with the old seal, if not it may still be on the flange of the tub front. Check that 1st.
The only tip is to lubricate the area of the gasket that pops onto the front with a SMALL amount of washing up liquid. Start at the top and literally pop it on using your thumbs. Don’t try to stretch anything, just take it easy and it should work. If you bought a genuine one, the top of the seal is indicated by ALTO.
Failing that, you may need an engineer.

Spares are replenished FOC you don’t charge for them. no margin there then.
Even though they have booked the calls for you they wont pay for Not in’s.
I was offered £25.00 a call, the highest of their rates as we cover a large area. Extras £10.00 for gas , £16.00 for a plastic tub , £30.00 for a metal tub, then theres £15.00 a day for going out of area. i.e. if I am asked to just do wakefield for them but then they throw 4 Doncaster jobs in.
P.
Nothing has changed then. As I keep saying, they very nearly bankrupted me.
This second visits may not come back to you, I therefore assume the flip side is you could well pick up someone elses 2nd visit?
I not suprised the tight bastards are still screwing everyone down on cost. And the lap top booking system, possibly blocking a workload regard an engineer already having calls for YOUR OWN customers, no way.
I once gave them 24 hours notice unless they put their prices up from £25 to £27 plus enhancement for gas. They gave in to my demands, and a couple of weeks later I phoned a few Merloni colleagues and let them know I was on a higher rate. A few weeks after that an internal e-mail from Merloni was leaked to me telling their service managers to look out as there was a conspiracy going on and agents were talking about rates.
My name along with one or two others was mentioned in the e-mail.
No wonder they didn’t like me.

ParticipantRe: JTM Contracts
Not only Paul Feek, but Andy Craw who was once the Service Director of ISDA. Before Richard Dalley.
We done a little bit of work in the past, poor product, little tech no-how and slow in paying; plus they wanted a share of any chargeable work, £10 per call. We only had 2, 1 never paid and the other cancelled, JTM still expected their slice of the cake though. So I binned them.
Bit of a coloured history I seem to recall. There is a previous thread relating to JTM somewhere in this lot, but you will have to hunt for it.

This all hinges on the product code.
There is more than one IWMS, (Tank Assy) and there is an inlet valve kit to suit either.
You have correctly identified the kit for the 2 valve IWMS but there is another for the 3 valve. The number of which I do not have to hand, things are further complicated by whether the semi transparent tube across the front is angled at 180 or 360 degrees. I’m assuming you are looking to replace the valve kit, if you care to plod around this site, the answer is on there as I gave this out a few weeks ago.

I’m beginning to believe this looks o.k.
I wish I was at last weeks meeting, I could have renewed my aquaintance with Roy Fisher and sounded things out 1st hand. However I’m impressed by the positive comments to date.
Any more input whether positive or negative, would be appreciated as I would love to see a slightly bigger picture.

Helo Martin you old tart!!
I ought to apologise for my off the cuff statements in the past. It was the “throw toys out the pram” syndrome that aroused my sentiments.
I for one can see that your intentions are sincere, and doubtless you were mislead to come about your sudden course of action. It is all over now, and of course we must move on.
I will apologise personally when we next meet, & I owe you a drink.
Regards.

Afraid not. Such information may well contravene the consumer protection act.
All I can suggest is ensure the plug is pulled out, take your time & follow your nose.
Everything is done from the rear regards Tub/Drum removal, then you have to spilt the tub assembly and go from there. Make sure you replace the tub seal and ensure the drum spider is clean & unmarked.
Best of luck, a nice Saturday morning job for you. Parts will cost about £60 assuming you need the drum spider.

I might, but they usually do one at Grantham in Lincs round about the same time.
If I can I prefer to do Grantham, it is a better course. I’ll look into it.

ParticipantRe: Waste product
Dead Simple.
If under guarantee, the manufacturers usully want it back. In the case of Lux they have something in place to return removed parts & they cover the cost.
If on insurance, we tell the customer; “in some cases the insurance company like to contact you and along with a questionairre they may ask to see the part. It is suggested you keep it for 3 months & if you hear nowt from them, bin it”.
If chargeable, just say to the customer, “Well you have seen those porogrammes on the Telly where the engineer has allegedly fitted a part, but all of a sudden cannot find the old one in the back of the van; as your husband may like to see the bit. No problem here missus, we will leave you the old bit as proof”. The parts removed are your property, and we are entrusting you to decide what to do with the goods.
Never had a problem yet.

Hi there, had a good holiday and smiled when I read this lot. Especially the last sentence as above.
I’m saying nothing, which may come as a shock to some, but to be honest I’ve said it all on Merloni. Nearly had a visit from those with violin cases, and it got to the stage where I could anticipate a horses head in my bed.
One thing which was to be expected, I never had the begging e-mail either.
Everything Del said in the earlier posting is spot on. Their past has caught up with them.

Do have a good meeting you lot.
I’m sorry I’m not able to make it, but will be away. The plans were put in place last January.
I suspect I will have a lot of reading to do when I get back.
Regards and good wishes to all.

Attention Retra Members.
You will find it on the front page of the current issue of the Retra magazine, (Called “Alert”).
“Merloni Listens To RETRA” It goes on to to tell us that Merloni are aware of some difficulties. They are stating that some problems are due to, “The new owners had a lot of ground to make up replacing some of the infrastructure that had been stripped out by the previous owners”. Makes me wonder who is supposed to be blaming who in this one?
They mention that, “progress was not as rapid as had been hoped” The article mentions that after RETRA had expressed concerns, why not extend the work opportunities to the independent sector? and they are pleased to report this initiative has indeed begun.
It has been made clear in the article that; “in some areas the response rate was substantially below acceptable standards”
And there you have it.

PS as yet the calls are not pre-booked. Realistically it would be incredibly difficult for an operator in CDSL to book an efficient days work for an engineer considering they have no local knowledge and no idea of what van stock is carried. I suspect this could be the biggest reason for withdrawing from a contract. We used to get them pre-booked when the Philco calls came out of Nottingham. I don’t want to go back there again as sometimes they would sneak them in after 11 am booked same day.
The only stumbling block I used to get with LG were payments, but I can assume CDSL are managing that for you anyway.
Thanks for the response, sounds good so far. Would appreciate a few more if possible to get a bigger picture.
