    Re: advertising

Yellow pages works a lot better than Thompson. You get what you pay for, but not a good idea to go too big on Y.P. cost you a bomb and some potential customers are put off if the ad looks expensive. We used to spend £6k per year, reduced now to £2k. Best thing is a smaller ad but colourful with white or blue “knock-out”.

A website is o.k. but you need to place it on good search engines and get links with Y.P. as well as some of the local web pages for your vicinity. Y.P. again is dear, and usually links with local pages about £30 to £40 p.a.

The best advert is word of mouth. It doesn’t happen overnight. When we started we had vinyl stickers made and stuck on each product at time of visit, still use them now. That worked as a free advert, I can give a link to a label producer if you wish, cost about £28 per 500 labels once thay have set the template.

    Best of luck.

Yep, IWMS If you come up with product code and serial number we can give you the info and prices etc.

If you feel the call is beyond you, give us a postcode & we will send you in the direction of a repairer.

Changing the valve may not sort it. As Martin said, this one is getting on a bit and probably the Xeolite chrystals in the resin container has become leeched.

Things can be made worse either by being hot inlet fed or excess lime scale over a period of time.

Could be the IWMS, (integrated water management system).

If you could post the product number & serial number off the appliance we can give you a better idea. There are a few modifications on this model, depending on age etc. and it may be prudent to contact your local Service Force. Either Fleet or Thatcham.

If I was able to be there, I would love to do something on Dasa and have pleasure in being part of the debate.

Maybe some food for thought there.

I may have done it for you Ken.

BTW Ken, you have my permission to quote my thoughts into the WR for those souls who have the sense not to be Dasa members and want to know what my sentiments are. Go for it.

    I can’t be assed, it is 11.50 p.m. and Iv’e loads to do. Good-night.

    Dave.

Sorry but it was worth a shot.

FYI 2926528122 Superseded by 292652106 and 29022192018 Shows as obsolete. That doesn’t mean no longer available as sometimes when I check on a part it is the middle of a part number change.

Best bet is phone Dometic & see if they will supply you with bits, you never know they may need an agent in Sunny Devon, as it is caravan country. (I know this as they clog up our roads to get down to you).

Hugh Lamberton is the contact name if you want to try for an agency.

It was just that the possibility of him being admitted to TWR had been muted, I was’nt too sure if this was just a joke or if it was a real possibility. .

Well I started this more or less as a joke as I didn’t think for 1 minute he would be allowed in legitimately.

But thus far he has also been just as quick to offer advice to members who are employers and carry out commercial/agency work, about which, I am sorry to say he know’s FUCK ALL !

    Spot on!

If his inadvertant eavesdroping has taken some of the wind out of his sails, then perhaps that might not be such a bad thing.

And perhaps cramps his style. Yes he’s a decent enough chap & I’m sure he means well, but I thought some of the crap he was putting up in the main forums were diluting the whole ethos of the site, i.e. Sainsburys etc.

If he hadn’t thrown a wobbly a few months ago, I wouldn’t take too much notice, after that little episode I couldn’t take him seriously.

For all said and done, lets give him a chance and prove me wrong.

Dometic is the company, American I believe, that bought the caravan fridge sector from Lux.

Distriparts still stock the goods, but will only supply direct to a Dometic agent. (Politics as most of us Lux agents wouldn’t take the work on when they moved companies).

    Phone number for Dometic, 01582-494111.

We do have a few spares ourselves and may be able to help. 01278-434978 part numbers would be handy, if not Prod Number.

    Re: UK Whitegoods Limited

Interesting times ahead, and incorporation of UKW will indicate that the site and group is gaining credibility. What this site is becoming is a recognised link between, repair companies, retailers, manufacturers and work providers. What is paramount though is that the site remains in our hands and is not a victim of any future take-overs by shall we say interested parties. I know that will never happen though as we are growing daily and there is clearly a need for the site. No doubt all this has already been considered and there will be no need for concern.

The issue of shares will allow members to maintain confidence in the site, and give us a feeling of “ownership”. I for one would be happy to consider buying shares myself, and I would like to see anybody who receives some free shares, buy a few as well. I’m sure that would happen in any case.

Reading Ken’s original post on this there is a taster put out regards more to follow at WG-3 meeting at Stafford in September, (assuming the date remains the same). I really regret not being able to attend, (Holiday); as this sounds exciting and it would be great to be there and hear the latest 1st hand. I know I can rely on being kept up to speed, it would be nice to be on the spot at the time but that cannot be helped.

I agree with Ken, that this should not look to be a trade association, there is one already and that is under-subscribed.

    Dave.

I just find it wierd that he managed to glean so much information in such a short time.

I can understand him being attracted to the subject, “Where’s Martin?” But what intrigued him about “Removal of Topic”, which is about 20 subjects down the screen, he managed to get down to there, & I cannot see any reason for him jumping straight down to that. Therefore I assume he plodded his way there, or maybe copied & pasted some for later use.

I accept though that Dave was on the case during the affair, and maybe I’m just being cautious.

I think he means well, but after his previous outburst, stamping his feet and running home to mum, and considering what he has read about himself, I’m amazed he’s still here. I must assume he has no bugger else to talk to.

O.K. maybe we need to give the guy a break.

I’m not bothered about what we have had to say about him, & I agree he is helpful and will deal with the dross on the site.

My concern is not what he happened to skip read on that fateful day, but what he was able to lift off the pages to read at a later date off line.

As long as we keep an eye on him, fair enough.

Thats interesting I think a phone call is in order on Monday,Also Alex does your Gas fee cover just gas or dual fuel?
    Lawrence

The gas fee includes dual fuel, even if we fit an electric element to an A2. We still need to send a gas tech. the risk levels & skill requisits remains the same.

I have never phoned them regards rates, I write to Dean Griffiths every year or so and tell him what my charges will be to them as from such & such date, closing with, “If you wish to discuss this, please feel free to contact me on …. etc.”

I try & be realistic and I’m sure if they thought I was being silly, they would either pass me by or consider arbitration.

Absobloodylutely spot on. The same thought crossed my mind, and the day may come when he reads this posting.

Sends shivers down my back, to be fair to him, as Dave says, he has taken it very well; but the grudge factor may kick in one day, and he has ammunition should he need it. We dont know what he was able to cut & paste, and lets face it, he’s up there when it comes to I.T. Also he could be holding a lot of info, after all it looks like he has had a bloody good nose around in what was supposed to have been a short time.

We know he is capable of throwing his toys out the pram and going off on his own tangent for no particular reason. He demonstrated that before.

I will give him a chance though, but I suggest we keep an eye on him.

    Dave.

Pity we can’t get that fact through to insurance companies.

We make a call to fit a belt, & yes the fan has to be smashed off the shaft. (In severe cases, melted off with a flame). 10 Months later, totally unrelated, the motor fails for whatever reason, so destroy the fan again, submit the claim form & yes you guessed it, rejected the whole amount as the fan has already been replaced in the last 12 months.

The above is not unique to any particular insurance company, we get it right across the board.
