Oh no, not another one that will be going to Watchdog.

If I had a penny for every time I heard this one :rotfl:

    John

Goes to a standard conditions of contract signed by each customer which would include a “Commercial in Confidence Clause” stating “No part of this agreement for service shall be (except as required by law) discussed with any third party”

Then if they threaten watchdog you simply bring to their attention the clause in the conditions of contract they signed and that you will be instructing your Solicitor to “Sue for breach of Contract” mentioning some suitable high compensation figure you’ll be seeking

Also yet to see a requirement that any discussion with fair trading is “required by law”

The Watchdog equivalents here do there regular beatup on all manner of tradesman etc and I remember where they took a spring out of a F&P display module lid switch. The return spring is not available as a spare part and however they declined to mention this. Only critisized the engineer for replacing the whole module.

Did an interview once for a Court case (which I won) outlining my case. They never played the interview but used the footage with their voiceover to justify their position.

Conclusion 1. Never do an interview in an attempt to justify your position

Conclusion 2. The media never let the facts get in the way of a good story

Also, on the bottom of my invoices:

Additional faults may be present. Additional work will incur additional costs. Do not operate machine unattended. Turn off all electricity and water when machine is not attended. etc etc

In conclusion, I’d like to hear the wash up (pun intended) of this story

    Re: How nasty am i?

Isn’t it “wonderful” when someone else’s customer comes to you as they’re to embarrassed to go to the person they bought the spares off.

And of course you never hear from them again as they’re too embarrassed to come back to you

And of course another perfectly serviceable machine goes to the rubbish dump

eastlmark wrote:one thing to watch out for when selling spares is a little trick that caught me out once and someone else tried it the other day. They buy a new fan element for a cooker and 1 hour later bring it back, with the opened wrapping and say its faulty. I megger it infront of them and yes it is faulty. What they do is bring back the original faulty one and hey presto its BOGOFF time!
These were both Neff items, only 18months -2 years old and there was no visual differrence between a brand new element and their old open circuit one.

Where is your “Duty of Care”

You could be sued by someone doing there own repairs incorrectly or with lethal consequences.

By all means sell spares but give them a contract to sign

Brings me back to a forum on “Contract Conditions”

Eastlmark wrote “what they do is bring back the original faulty one”

You should put a security sticker on all parts you sell

And no returns on electronic/electric parts that have the security sticker tampered or have obvious signs of been installed

And as customers tend to bend the truth, a audio/ visual recording of all that you told them is absolutely necessary

    Re: heat pump tumble dryer

Haven’t read all the posts but it seems to me that the issue of moisture freezing up on the evaporator would be huge. Then your up for large elements to defrost (back to electric elements to do the drying in the first place, or constantly reversing the cycle with subsequent slow drying. And of course you still need a motor to turn the darn thing.

    Typical Comments from housewife

    “It can’t be mine”

    “Must be my daughters”

    “I don’t wear a bra”

    “I don’t wear underwires”

“I wondered where that went to”

And of course I tend to hold them up the right way as I approach the housewife as a gauge of whether they are hers or not, just to embarrass them more

and “my bra wires are getting stuck in the dishwasher spray arm”

A certificate must be renewed every year i.e. appliances re checked at least once a year”

Been very quite on your Corgi threads

How’s Corgi going as I read it came in on 1 April

In Oz they recommend Electrical Appliance testing in the house every 2 years

In New Zealand your allowed a LPG bottle inside the house but not here in OZ

It will soon be to the stage where you have to have everything Certified, Qualified, Sterilized etc etc etc

I think it was KWATT who said you have more chance of winning the lottery than being killed by dodgy appliances

    2 entries found for cynic
A person who believes all people are motivated by selfishness.
A member of a sect of ancient Greek philosophers who believed virtue to be the only good and self-control to be the only means of achieving virtue.

    Quotes

A cynic is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past; he is one who is prematurely disappointed in the future

Idealist: a cynic in the making

Cynics are made, not born. Karl Marx

    I’m not cynical. Just experienced.

“The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.” George Bernard Shaw

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it’s a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
    Desiderata, Max Ehrmann 1927

    SSDD (same shit different day)

BTBPDIAT (been there before, probably doing it again tomorrow)

Had a customer obtained a judgement against me.

(He was known to the trade)

(Had to lift his fridge in through a window 3 foot off the ground as he didn’t want to mark the entry flooring)

Anyway I had replaced a compressor in his fridge/freezer and he sued me for the thermostat that later failed.

    NSN (never say never)

Goes to my saying before about Public servants

Depending on just which figures you believe, color blindness seems to occur in about 8{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} – 12{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of males of European origin and about one-half of 1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of females. Total color blindness (seeing in only shades of gray) is extremely rare.

A good way of culling competition aye goatboy
