Re: White Knight 44AW stops mid cycle

The part holds a micro-switch and they can fail internally with burnt contacts as well as the type of problem you are getting…

If you have started to get problems with it then change it as it can overheat and cause damage to the wiring

Re: Has anyone heard of The Appliance Academy

Just tried to have a look myself and can not even find the website from the link given…

Unless it is Appliance Academy of-course

However, if you are interested in this sort of training then there is also the short versions at The Training Academy who also do whitegoods training

Do you mean the microswitch at the top of the door?

Aqua sensor just above the pump?

Try pouring a bucket or two of hot water into the tank upto fill level, then turn it on and drain

You may have shorted the lamp cable and therefore also shorted the selector switch tab… New selector switch and insulated neon cable,

I would suggest then you send the board to EWM Electronics for testing / repair

    Re: Hotpoint wt960

The problem is most likely to be either connection of the motor cable to the PC Board or a fault with the board itself…

If you are going to check, make sure to leave at least 10 mins before touching the board after disconnection as they can hold charge

    Re: Callout charges

Yes, I do disagree with the determination made by the ASA and BIZ.. A company offering a service of £45 diagnostics service may want to offer that service irrespective of the distance involved..

To elaborate, I may offer a £45 diagnostics to a customer a few doors from my business.. But then I may offer the same service to someone who is 40 miles away in Llandudno.. The service charge is the same, but the callout is also the same £0.

In an alternative situation, I may offer diagnostics at £45 and callout of £0 to a local customer and diagnostics at £45 + £40 callout to the Llandudno customer.

The first scenario is classified as free callout.

I do see reasons though for the ASAs concerns of unscrupulous traders taking advantage by reversing the thoughts to offer free callout and the charge for diagnostics without the prior knowledge of the customer… The rules / law, should be changed to counter the situation to force traders / repairers to notify the customer before attendance.

    Re: Callout charges

Some engineers will charge a fixed fee depending on the distance visiting.. I personally charge a fee relative to the distance and the technicality of the appliance being visited and offer that if progression is up-taken then the fee is then incorporated as part of the labour charge, thereby casting the client less money.

No callout is defined as ‘not charging to call out’.. this does not infer ‘no charge for diagnosis’.. No Callout infers that the customer will not pay for the engineer to attend the property, even if the customer is not in, or if the customer decides not to continue with the request for service.

There are many different ways of charging for service or alternatively not charging for attendance.. However, in no way does the ‘No Callout’ statement infer free services other than Callout, else it would state ‘Free Callout & Diagnosis’

    Re: Dangerous part ll

It is not just the appliance technician/engineer who can make dangerous errors of judgement…

In the following case, a QUALIFIED electrician Pat Tested the socket only the month before.. At the time of the Pat Test, the severe crack existed in the front of the plate.. but behind it there was something more severe and dangerous going on.
