    Re: ISE is too tall

Thanks John. I was going to quote Tesco’s slogan “every little helps”, but then I realised (for the first time) that it doesn’t look right when written down. I suspect it’s not grammatically correct. I found myself pondering, “every little what?” Then I realised I was wasting valuable time going off on tangents again, which is a problem of mine and accounts for much of my lack of achievement in life. Now I realise I’m wasting your valuable time too. Its 10 O’clock and time for a cuppa tea. All this because “Thanks John” seemed way too concise.

Yes that’s my current assumption. I’m wondering if anyone knows different. I suspect that some Miele engineers could be implying that the washing machine must be recalibrated after repair, which helps keep customers reliant on Miele (or some customers are making that assumption), but the truth is just that they can be recalibrated and that it isn’t necessary at all in the vast majority of cases.

Re: An offer you can’t refuse?

My experiences while working for a large multiple as a white goods engineer were that the job was a joke – but not a funny one. The expectations placed upon an engineer by both the customer and the employer are a few straws short of breaking his back. I wouldn’t go on the road working under those conditions again – I’d rather sweep it.

My observation was that the only engineers who didn’t find it stressful were a few that didn’t give a toss, and when you got to know them you found out that they did once give a toss but it was battered out of them. I suspect their new-found don’t-give-a-toss-any-more attitude was what kept them going but not everyone is capable of adapting like that. Some just find it almost impossible to adopt that attitude and they suffer for it. There were also some engineers that appeared not to be stressed, but again, when I got to know them I was often surprised to find they’d been off work with stress a few times in the past. The engineers that really cared about giving good customer service were very unhappy and pretty stressed. In the 10 months or so I was there they lost about 6 engineers.

No offense to anyone, this is simply my take on things. I’m not posting in response to indispoint I’m posting in support of Gertrude’s experiences and taking an opportunity to rant about something that I feel strongly about – which is nice.

Thanks. As they made me buy 10 fuses, I’ll be alright 🙂 If it goes again I will investigate those switches.

Martin wrote:Ah, if you attended the UKW detergent training you would know that one of the vital ingredients in the make-up of a detergent tablet is called a “Builder“…..a water softener in fact. 😉

I did know Martin – “My understanding is that washing machine detergent has built in softener”. The thread title was rhetorical 🙂

This is exactly what my stance has been, but Miele recommending it confused me enough to want some back up. My theory has been that Miele are happy to promote it because it helps ensure the Miele washer lasts longer.

Re: My Microwave just died, should I look inside?

Job done 🙂 never touched a thing inside except the fuse with some narrow nosed pliers. Went to Maplins and was forced to by 9 spares as well as a replacement – no matter though. Boiled a cup of water up on full power OK.

I think in future I will pause the microwave before opening the door. I usually just opened the door. Mind you I’ve been doing so for 10 years so it probably wasn’t that.

It looks like a little 8 amp fuse. I’ll try to get one from Maplins. I didn’t get any sparks flying when I shorted out the cap. It must have discharged naturally. Even so, I extracted the fuse with the precision of a brain surgeon, touching nothing but the fuse 🙂

40 quid from Comet? How very dare you 😉 It’s a combination microwave, it cost about £250 at least. I reckon a replacement would be about the same now. Thanks guys. I didn’t hear a sound when it went, so I’m hopeful its just a fuse gone for no apparent reason.. I meggered it and it seemed OK so I’ll have a look at the fuse.

Re: ISE Email address bounces mail

It’s strange this, I tried again but the email bounces back within 30 seconds saying it’s a permanent error! I think the critical error is “Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table”. With me and the other chap not being able to email ISE it might be worth investigating.

    Re: Who are Electrical 123?

Cheers K, and top-o-the-mornin’ to you, even though it’s now after noon. I’ve not been up long so it’s morning as far as I’m concerned. Unfortunately I haven’t heard of them either. As long as they aren’t dodgy that’s OK. I just had someone who ordered a Miele washing machine for £299 inc. delivery from there. Unfortunately they phoned him up after to tell him it was a mistake, but he could have it at the “special price of £500”. It was probably a genuine mistake, but I was aroused to look into them.
