Modern fabrics don’t need 50 degrees then? I still don’t know what’s changed exactly. A lot of people always used 50 degrees – and for delicates!

    Re: Six Year Guarantee

I’ve just spend 2 weeks researching this. The 6 years (5 in Scotland) refers to the length of time you have from the date of purchase to take the seller to court. In other words, if you want to take the seller to court, and 6 (or 5) years have passed it’s too late.

You still have to prove that the product was not fit for its purpose, or was inherently faulty such as with a design fault that caused a failure (even) years after purchase. In practice, a very small percentage of people are prepared to go to court.

    ____

It’s worth remembering also that the seller has rights against where they bought it from too so in the case of an adjudged faulty design, the trader has a cast iron case against the manufacturer (or wholesaler) too.

Also, I wonder if product liability insurance covers claims like this? I would not sell washing machines without being covered by product liability insurance – which is different to public liability insurance.

Here’s one although you can’t see the conector properly as it’s to small

They are stepped down, tapered connectors

There’s a big public auction on at Sheffield branch – May 6th – organised by administrators. Everything must go.

Re: Universal drain hose extension kits

Thanks Dave, I was thinking more of the extension connectors though that come with the extension kits, or can be bought seperately, where you can join two drain hoses together. Is it fair to say that although the fitting to the pump on a drain hose may be different, the plastic connectors will always fit and be water tight?

    Re: Compensation Issue

I think in law, it’s possible to pay compensation without accepting liability. Big companies do it all the time. There’s a legal phrase that does the trick somewhere. It’s something to do with “without prejudice” I think.

To me the choices are to continue the battle and be as stubborn as the customer, pay up using the phrase that accepts no liability at all but simply gives a goodwill gesture, or to pass onto public liability insurance which is after all why we have it – so we don’t suffer all this stress.

It’s easy for us to advise do this do that but the OP has to deal with any consequences and stress 🙂

    Re: Compensation Issue

Yes, this is why we have public liablity insurance. If the customer is insistant, I would pass him onto them. All liablities should then pass to them.

I’ve seen a few like this. Would you have any objections if I copy the photo and possibly put it up on my site as a warning to customers?
