ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WD71P – Another One
Condensation forms on the module components and causes spurious faults towards the end of the drying cycle and splashes can form during spin. It happened a lot when we were changing washer dryer drum front plates five years or so ago.

Can I suggest a ‘don’t know’ option or ‘leave blank’ if it’s a product that we don’t work on. Otherwise you are going to get a lot of guesswork.

Had this several times… it’s caused by an air leak at the dryer nozzle. [the rubber tube between the heater box and the nozzle is not engaged properly]

ParticipantRe: Dishwasher: soil problems and answers
Unfortunately I will be missing the meeting. But here’s a couple of questions to start the ball rolling…
What’s that ‘orrible white gunk that forms around the fine gauze filters?
How do detergent manufacturers claim that the rinse aid and softener components can still function over an hour after the three in one / four in one (and what the hell is five in one?) tablet has been dispensed?
What can we advise customers to avoid growth of mould etc in the metering tanks and transfer hoses? The problem seems to be customer rather than machine related.
What’s the best way to avoid bad smells forming in a low usage machine?

ParticipantRe: Functional Test of Brush Motor
Personally I am against cleaning the commutator. The patina on the commutator is much harder and smoother than clean copper and reduces brush wear dramatically.
I have done extensive research on brush wear (in an earlier life when I worked as a design engineer in an electric motor company). Research has proved that the commutator should never be touched with a com stick or emery paper unless it has been physically damaged by brushes wearing down to the tamping (this is the bit the pigtail is bonded into).
If the brushes are changed before they start to arc then leave the commutator alone…

This sounds the same as the Servis problem with stretched belt… I have not seen this on a Hotpoint though.

ParticipantRe: Weird and Wonderful thread
There’s an eegg built into the software on a Hotpoint WD72 (I think) that runs an little critter along the screen. I have only seen it once (about 6 years ago) when the customer had spilt coffee down the front and shorted out the option buttons. The bods at head office at Hotpoint wouldn’t believe it until I sent them a copy of the customer’s video of the machine!

Not as simple as that Mike 🙁 , it’s a solid plastic plug with a barb that appears to be forced in with no way of removing it without snapping it.
