Re: Hygena dishwasher casing live !

Something that you can check for yourself is the earth connection in the plug.

If the machine is connected to an extension cable or a two way adapter, then that could be at fault.

Any appliance that is not earthed correctly is fundamentally dangerous and should not be used until the earth fault is repaired. Should the appliance develop a serious fault in the future it could kill someone rather than just blowing the fuse.:zap:

In theory the appliance will work without the suppressor but it is there for a purpose; to stop the appliance interfering with sensitive electronic equipment (including its own microprocessor in the timer unit) and should not be disconnected. The 125v reading is quite normal if the appliance is not earthed. Disconnecting the suppressor in this instance is not advisable as it is just covering the problem and not resolving it.

I had an AEG machine the other day with a similar problem and it turned out to be the pressure switch sticking (level three) only after a heat pause. Of course I didn’t test the machine through a heat pause!

Do they use the same timer? It could be the length of reverse tumble and/or the duration of the pause.

I fitted one of these a few weeks ago. The twits at Connect Distribution warehouse thought it a good idea to put two cooker hinges inside the dispenser to save on packaging. It didn’t survive…

Andy, That is definitely not true!

The motor running temperature rises almost exponentially with an increase in capacitance. The correct rating capacitor should always be use to achieve the correct starting torque. Very important on condenser dryers that have a very short pause between reversing.

There was a recent thread about this:

Welcome to the Forums Mieleman. I am sure that your input will be much appreciated in hte future. Personally, I HATE working on Miele machines

Thanks Craig. I have spent hours on this machine. Mostly getting it out of the housing! I really didn’t want to give up.

    Thanks again

My own machine flooded the base the other day. Only problem was a saucepan handle restricting the top spray arm.

The leak from the door seal run down the side directly into the base.

As you said… Who designs this stuff?

This is SAD! I’m sitting in my hotel room on holiday, and I just had to log in to see the outcome of this one.

    Well done for sorting it

    Re: Motor direction

It is possible but I can’t tell you off the top of my head. The brushes are above and below the centerline of the commutator and (I believe) the skew is in the direction of rotation.

You don’t say what machine you are working on but, as I said earlier most machines spin clockwise.

Many brushes have a “R” or an “L” printed on them, this is the direction of rotation on spin. However, which is which I am not sure.

I’m off on holiday down the west country in about ten minutes and my wife is shouting at me to get moving. 👿 👿

Dave… I’ll wave on the way past.

I would like to say “NO Merloni under five years old” but that would take away 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my work. 😉

I would dearly love to say “No Indes#it Dishwashers”.

    Re: Motor direction

All Hotpoint machines have the dispenser on the left hand side but they all spin clockwise…

If you look at the position where the dispenser hose joins the tub, it comes in at an angle (pointing toward the two oclock position) so a clockwise spin would tend to create negative pressure at that point.

It also creates negative pressure at the pressure chamber orifice (I love that word).

    Re: Creda/WM type no spin.

It’s not something really stupid like a ‘no spin’ switch on the front pushed in?

I’m not sure if there is such a switch on this machine but it’s fooled me before.

    Re: Motor direction

Sorry rushed that one in without answering the original question.

Yes, reversing the polarity of the armature will reverse the direction of the motor. Thats exactly what the timer does to reverse the motor using the subinterval cams. (or a relay on the module on digital machines).

In theory either the armature OR the field polarity can be reversed in order to reverse the direction of spin but on a washing machine it’s usually the armature that is switched rather than the field. This is due to the use of the half field tapping on the field to enable the superspin.

MOST??? washing machines spin in a clockwise direction, however there are a few that spin anticlockwise.

    Hope that explains it
