    Re: Hotpoint BF41 Dishwasher

I think the start button just overides the null position on the timer by energising the timer motor direct. As such it won’t stay in. I believe the timer is in the base of the machine and the program has to end once it’s started unless you [as an engineer] turns the timer manually by taking of the kick strip..

You will find a wiring diagram on a piece of paper by the timer.

Re: What do you love about this job ?

I think I was born with a spanner in my hand. I left school in 1977 and took an apprenticship with a local engineering company and then joined Hotpoint in 1987. In those days Hotpoint was a prestigious company to work for and I was really proud to be part of the team. God!! What went wrong!

I have always loved mending things, meeting customers and driving. For me being a Hotpoint Engineer was a dream come true. It went a bit stale when Creda amalgamated and right downhill when Merloni took over. I was so sad that my dream job was no longer quite the same and I decided to get out when redundancies where being offered some three years ago.

I tried a few other ventures but quickly realised that Service Engineering was my ‘thing’ and I quickly set up on my own with exactly the same principles that Hotpoint taught me in 1987. (I even wear a shirt and tie to work!)

    I haven’t looked back.

Re: trigger board on Belling cooker

Thanks Dave. I have just seemed to fall in to cooker repairs without any formal training. Hence I have no wiring diagrams etc. I have always wondered what the trigger board controlled 😕 I suppose I could just follow the wires but I don’t want my customers to think I don’t know what I am doing.

Re: wma pressure switch / service test problems

Pressure switches rarely go out of calibration. They either work or they don’t! If it’s overfilling it is probably due to a blockage.

Surely this is a classic case of “look for an associated fault” If you have just changed the door seal because of mould growth and had to remove and clean the dispenser due to the same, it implies that the sump hose/pressure chamber is blocked too.

Look for bad solder connection on heater relay on the module. There are other threads about this problem elsewhere on the forums.

Thanks, I will probably work as I am at the moment and reject the calls.

What about disconnecting a cooker on a bayonet fitting to move it out of the way to work on another appliance? I normally get the customer to move it.

Look for an earth fault on the metal harness to cabinet clip by the door interlock. The weight of the drum changes during fill and the earth fault may not be showing until half full.

    Re: crusader 37667 condensing dryer

It’s the capacitor! I have been a Hotpoint/Creda Engineer for 15 years and I have seen this fool many engineers. It only happens with a large load when the machine is hot. Run it without the filter in place so that you can see the drum rotating. It sometimes only happens after 10 minutes and often trips the over temp stat.

The motor has a very low starting torque when the capacitor first begins to fail. The problem exists when the (reversing) timer contacts switch over.
The sequence is approx 3 minutes in forward mode (I think clockwise), one second off, 20 seconds reverse tumble with no heat, one second off, then 3 minutes forward with heat. The problem is the very short off period at the end of the reverse tumble. When the capacitor fails there is no time for the motor to stop during the off period and the drum carries on turning in the reverse mode with the heater on. Because the fan can only blow in one direction, the heater overheats and the TOC trips

    Re: AAAAAaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!!!Zanussi door seal.

I use a small 2-3 inch spring clamp available from B&Q. Holds the spring in place at the two o’clock position while you fight with the rest of it. A bit of washing up liquid helps.

Hold the door seal against the inner drum and turn the whole lot together if you need to turn the door seal after fitting.

The clamp is also brilliant as a third hand to help fit the seal to front panel retainer on whirlpool machines.
