It’s the black edge connector on the timer.

Look for an earth fault on the pump wiring. It might not show from the plug top when empty.

Take off the sump hose and try to feel the foriegn object. Pass a length of string down through the front plate and out though the sump hose. Fray the end of the string and attach a small piece of blue-tak or something similar to the end of the string. Then try and stick the blue-tak to the foriegn object and pull it out through the front of the machine. I have done this three times successfully.
The other technique that I have tried… with limited success… was to use a vacuum cleaner with the nozzle pushed into my trusty syringe and a length of pressure hose to suck up the foriegn object.

Customer reported dishwasher was sticking and making a funny sound. It’s not unusual for the timer motor gear to come loose from the timer motor shaft. The gear wheel should be flush with the end of the timer motor shaft. The recognised fix was to use loctite but I used to roughen up the shaft with side cutters and push the gear wheel back on.

Years ago, I poured mine into the washing machine… Like you do… Only to find the customers net curtains inside… Whoops. 😳

In the backof my mind I remember an incident on this machine where the hoses were reversed (hot and cold) and the machine sticks on the stepped cooling rinse cycle.

Be careful to put the magnet back in the right way up! Float it in a glass of water to see which way it is happy.
I have one of these in a carvery restaurant where they use a sharpening steel a lot and have lots of iron filings.Nice easy job. I tell them that they can do it themselves but they seem to be happy for me to do it every six months or so and pay my labour charge. 😉

Conversely… I have no problems at all with Thomson. They are my best advert. Yellow Pages on the other hand have been awful!
Yesterday, the Yellow Pages rep came to see me to sell me next year’s ad. He was very upset when I told him that I am only going to have a token advert next year as this year’s (and the last two year’s) advert has not worked for me.
He quoted me loads of statistics to say how much better Yellow Pages are compared to Thomson! He went away with a flea in his ear.

ParticipantRe: Re necht dishwasher?
When I said I have worked on these, perhaps I meant I have seen a few. I have had the odd blocked pump and one with a heater faulty and was able to replace it with an indesit heater. The machines seem very similar in design to the merloni ones that we all love to hate.
The baskets are crap on these…

Before you take the machne to pieces, check that there is not a blockage in the valve at the back of the water bottle. The valve is in two pieces, one attached to the bottle itself with small plastic clips and the other part is at the back of the machine held by two screws. You will need a long magnetic tip pozi screwdriver. Watch for sharp edges! I’ve got scars to prove you can’t do it with a short screwdriver.

It’s interesting to read about the tie up with merloni and Swan.

I have worked on a few of these and, to be honest, they seem to be a better build quality than the ‘normal’ Indesit crap. Or is it my imagination?

To open this debate further… the information posted on the open forums can be… and will be… read by other users without our control. There has to be a level of common sense here.

Jeremy.
I’m sure no-one here has an issue about you expressing an opinion. That’s what this site is all about!
Its a very difficult line to draw when deciding how much technical information should be given out over the phone (or over a web chat forum). Personally I would prefer to advise a customer over the phone that her machine has a user accessible filter than to get the house and simply clear the filter and charge for a callout.

I think the point here… within the public forums in UKW… is to ensure that the DIYer’s will only practice their DIY ‘safely’ and to promote the services of us independant engineers.
The advice given here is unlikely to lose us work as, let’s face it, they will have a go anyway with or without our help. This way they are not going to delve too deeply into unknown teritory.
Good point though… How do you other lads feel?
