Oh God!
I hadn’t thought about the implications. Thanks for pointing that out.
It’s being removed now, so this thread may not make sense to anyone looking on in a few minutes.

I’ve kept an old knackered syringe working for many months by lubricating it regularly with olive oil. Usually the customer’s!

I think you will find it’s a Brandt. They suffer from over temp stats tripping. (Manually resetable) It’s adjacent to the heater at the back right hand side and often trips due to overfoaming.

ParticipantRe: It’s too dark to work!
I use a headlight from Robert Dyas stores por £4.99. Made by Draper. It has 4 or 8 bright LEDs depending on how you turn it on. It’s brillant. The batteries seem to last for ever.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool interlock wiring
The problem with thermal interlocks is that they are virtually impossible to test with a test meter.
Usually, but not always, there are terminal numbers (or a wiring diagram) printed on the unit.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool interlock wiring
The plug will only fit in one position and the terminal numbers are the same as the original
Good luck

I doubt if anyone could find a law making it illegal to work on a live machine! Nobody could possibly inforce such a law!
It’s just common sense and about good working practices.
If you work for a company, their policy may be that you never work on a live machine and I personally think it is a very good policy.
My point here is that ‘we’ (as posters of technical advice) should never encourage anyone else to work on a live machine.
Hope that makes sense.

ParticipantRe: Allowances for the fairer sex
Had a call today, booked as a first call at customer request.
I called at 8.00am which is late for me, it’s usually 7.30.
Silly cow had gone shopping.
She phoned me at 9.00… “Where are you? I made sure I was home by 9 as I didn’t want to miss you. I know you lads like to start early…”
:haier: Duh?

Drain pumps and interlocks.
If they ever get the quality of these right, we’ll all be out of work.

Sorry, I dont intend to tell other people how to work. I just don’t think it is a good idea to tell people on a forum such as this to do anything that is dangerous.
Of course there are times when you have to work on a live machine, it’s part of the business, but surely the most important thing is work safely and at a distance.

ParticipantRe: Can we be sensible here please.
Sorry, I’m not gettng my point across. I’m talking about unsafe practices and suggestions, not just having a giggle, usually at Chris’s expense!
Perhaps my choice of subject title is misleading. It should say “can we be more responsible here please”
I am getting concerned about several posts in the trade forums where advice is being given that is not really up to standard. We are all proffessional engineers here. If we’re not then we shouldn’t be posting advice!
Does that make more sense?

Mike! What are you like!
Please don’t tell people to prod around in a live machine.
THERE’S NO EXCEPTION….
DON’T WORK ON A LIVE MACHINE !

ParticipantRe: Trade spares around Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn area.
There are several Internet based trade spares companies around that can supply parts next day delivery. Phone SEME for a catalogue and set up an account. It’s a good starting point.
I now use Connect Distribution for most of my spares but you need to use them for a while and get friendly with your local rep before you get a good discount structure set up.

The above link is (hopefully) a growing information source for trade suppliers
Good luck
