Re: Safety Issue on Hotpoint Dishwashers

I went to one today (Indesit D61UK) and made a point of checking whether there were any live terminals in reach when the door was open and, it appears, that the door switch isolates all of the accessible components. The test was not very scientific, just the use of a no contact volt tester in the areas I could reach.

Martin, I am not trying to reduce the seriousness of this situation, only to explore the problem. If the exposed wires are isolated from the mains when the door is open, the British Standard Finger Test, which only refers to LIVE teminals may not be applicable. I really do feel strongly about this issue, which is why I have continued this thread, however we must have the ammunition and the correct information before taking it further.

Personally I think it unforgivable that there is access at this point for small fingers. However, if the uninsulated terminals are not live when the door is open, it might not contravene any safety rules. Don’t like it anyhow!

Does someone have a wiring diagram for these machines to see if the exposed wires are live with the door open?

Just to resurrect this thread, I called to an Indesit slimline dishwasher yesterday without any protection behind the kickstrip.

This photo (sorry it’s a bit dark) was taken from the floor with the door open. This machine has never been worked on before.

Anyone else seen these? I’m beginning to doubt myself.

In my experience, if there is water on the floor and NOT in the base then it’s due to a blocked, split or restricted spray arm.

Be very careful if you have a go at taking the dispenser out. The edges of the stainless steel door panel are razor sharp.

Re: Slight Odour Left on Glasses (Bosch Dishwasher)

If you are putting the tablet in the tub with the plates then it’s likely that the detergent is being washed away in the pre-rinse.

    You have two choices; either repair the dispenser or put the tablet in before the main wash cycle, not the pre-rinse. This entails opening the door during the wash which is not advisable. There are two reasons for this;

1)The door switch is not designed to switch the heater current and therefore over a prolonged period the door switch could fail.

2)The vacuum created by the action of opening the door can fool the water level system and cause fill problems.

The dispenser not opening problem is usually the dispenser itself but it could be the control module at fault. It will need an engineer to check to be sure.

    Re: aeg kdwi d/w

I like to complete as many calls as I can on the first visit. If there is not a universal kit and cleaning it out clears the problem, then how is it viable to make an incomplete call just to go back with go back with a special kit?

Is it “One kit fits all”? or are a there several kits. If it is a universal, do you have a part number please.

    Thanks

    Re: aeg kdwi d/w

What exactly is this kit and why is it needed? I have seen loads of Zan dishwashers with blockages but I have never been unable to sort them out. Surely the time taken to fit the kit would be the same as to clean out the old one. Or am I missing something?
