This kind of puts it in context to me.
Yesterday I had a customer ring up for a float switch for an indesit dishwasher. I asked why as I’d never had to fit one and she didn’t sound that clued up.
She had rung Indesit to find out what the fault code on the dishwasher meant and she was told its the float switch.
Rather than sell her a float switch I explained about leaks, water in the base, why the switch works etc.
She rang back to book a call in.
Later a guy rang to say he wanted a belt for a Hotpoint WM. I asked a few questions and decided it was the bearings gone. He said ‘ Oh I’ll just scrap it and buy new, thanks for that I’ll call you if anything else goes wrong’. He has mates, family, other people will hear that you are helpful and know what your’e talking about, i.e they’ll reccomend you to others.
It promotes your business.
Doesn’t matter who the info comes from (if it’s the right info) people remember where it came from and reccomend.
They don’t always act on the information given. I’ve had people ring me with quite a detailed diagnosis they’ve got off UKW and when asked why they didn’t want to do the (quite simple) job themselves they were just curious as to what caused it.Tony C

ParticipantRe: Bosch SMI6022GB/03 Dishwasher overfill
Been back to this one today armed with CJ’s info and fault immediately apparent. The return from the microswitch had melted into the tar on the door. Looked ok at first glance but the pull test proved the fault 😉 .
Thanks Mr Jameson.

ParticipantRe: Bosch d/w heater failures
Sorry Mike, I think Eastlemark means the heater box itself not the pcb fault 😉 .
Only ever had a couple of the boxes go, but they have both been in the last couple of months.

ParticipantRe: Hpt 9506 stat
Its the old type stat with one tag left and two tags right. They are saying it only sticks on the 40deg prog, even on a 90deg will advance through then stick on the forty. Heater and 85deg stat ok. Economy works ok(not checked P/switch 😳 )

Is there a level one in the Preston area that could take delivery of a couple of machines for me. At the moment I don’t know where I am from one day to the next and the area is too open to have them ‘left’ somewhere. They would be picked up asap.

Another good reason not to cross by the Chanelle tunnel if it’s falling apart. 😆

I was told in the dim and distant past by a Hotpoint manager that I was doing too many 20 minute calls. This was at the time of the early 95 flush doors when door wont open was up to four calls a day, and the rest were brushes.
