Agree 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} braze it every time even on ali to copper joints if you can get a snug fit id use a bit of heatseal stick never had problems with that .The only leakier thing than lockrings was the soft solder joints used by hotpoint in the 70 s n 80s 😆

remember years ago pricing a blower motor for a hotpoint 95 series washer dryer when i arrived at the wholesalers to pick it up (ah those were the days )i was told that a pattern version had just come out and would i like a look . Got both motors on the counter one in a nice shiney hotpoint logo d box the other in a brown box took both motors out and they were identical the only difference was the price 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} less for the pattern version guess which one i bought 😉

ParticipantRe: no work
a lot slower for us at the mo however i find its always a bit quieter may and june than the rest of the year ive tried in the past to analise why but not come up with anything concrete except that people takin holidays in school holidays have to pay for them this month and bank holidays always seem to upset things 😕

ParticipantRe: Free Estimate.
thats exactly the problem every customer is different one person thinks your expensive the other thinks your cheap you never can tell who those people are .We are very good at filtering out the wasters over the phone and most of the time call out fee is never mentioned as most of our customers have used us before . Having said that if we do get to a property and they ask for a free estimate they get just an estimate i dont spend ages looking for the problem if they want a quote i inform them that this will take longer and we make a charge for this service .This way im on my way to my next paying customer without wasting to much time .I do think its a regional thing though and we are fortunate that most of our calls are within 10 miles of our base and we do our best to lump calls together so avoiding unnecessary travelling. On this point i do about 12 calls a day and clock up around 22000 miles a year . im interested to see how this compares with you guys out there ? cheers Cras

ParticipantRe: Free Estimate.
weve never charged a call out fee in over 20 years i think if we tried to introduce one now it would lead to a drop in customers overall. i get the odd person wasting my time but most just want a repair doing at a reasonable price I get a lot off customers tell me that they always call us because we dont charge to tell them whats wrong. nine times out of ten they have a repair done or buy a new appliance off us I believe if i had charged call out fee 20 years ago that my customer base would have been slower to grow and i wouldnt be as busy as we are today .i recently repaired an integ f frz with a blocked filter when i gave the customer the bill for 85 pounds he informed me he had had another company out before me who had quoted 250 quid for a new compressor and when he declined had charged him 80 quid call out 😯 so as i see it each system is open to abuse if your that way inclined .cheers Cras.

ParticipantRe: Lincat commercial range cookers.
My wife runs a professional ovencleaning company. Lincats are a good quality cooker. She has also cleaned the Mercury range cookers. They are her dream cooker, she would love one in our kitchen! In her opinion they are about the best quality range cooker from a user/cleaning point of view. Check out their website- http://www.mercury-appliances.co.uk/

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
got to vent my spleen regarding this customer . Got a call to a cooker that was tripping as soon as mains switch was thrown customer informs me that electrician who lives opposite took a look and told her element was faulty but not his area so best to call an appliance company I got down to testing the cooker all elements tested ok after half hour or so located fault to hob top and noticed neon temp indicator light sitting at a slight angle removed side panel sure enough cable to the light just touching frame fished out the cable taped up the neon so she could use hob and top oven , customer present throughout advised her i would locate a new neon and ring the following day with price and and availability she then informs me that she has booked somebody to look at it tommorow (dont ask me why) but would now cancel them as i had sorted problem out. My office rings next day leaves a message to say part due in end of week and it will be a total of £65 The next day we pick up a message saying that some other company had called the same afternoon i called and had a light with him and did it all for £40 so thanks but no thanks :angry4: I was going to ring to explain that the reason it was only £40 was that i had done most of the work for them but i couldnt guarantee that i wouldnt use the odd expletive or two so we have now put it in writing with a bill to cover my time Im now looking forward to the fireworks next week , oh forgot to say her husbands a serving police officer so perhaps i shouldnt have been so trusting :rolls: feel much better now thats off my chest cheers cras.
