    Re: company logos

A long, long time ago, Hoptoint or GDA threatened us with legal action if the Hotpoint logo on our vans was not removed. That also went for Yellow pages ads but it seems we were one of few who took any notice. A couple of years ago I designed our yellow pages add that named a few quality brands. On my copy I wrote only the brand names down but Yellow pages took it on themselves to replace these with logos for which they apparently have a databse of. I Picked it up in the proof stage and only kept those for which we had some kind of official status.

They told be much the same story, every year! They reckon the water type ones go rusty inside so when you hit the button the cylinder explodes.

The bosch item numbered above is a 100ml item and fits nicely in the toolbox. The Bosch price is a shocking £19.21 inc vat handling to non account holders, (usual discount applies for account holders). they dont last forever as, if like me you use them to suck the dregs out of a dishwasher, the ruuber seal deterioates pretty fast.

Watch this space for a better deal!?

Probably that is your fault, the PCB. Guess this is a Brandt and they do fail. If its the one with the fridge bulb on the PCB itself then QER do an exchange unit. Dont be alarmed when it doesnt work after repalcing it,as it takes a few mins before it starts up.

roly16 wrote:Excellent article, Mark, thank you. Can I just query one point? You say that thermistors can’t be tested, but if you measure their resistance while warming them up [or cooling them down] and it changes, that’s a fair indication that they’re working. Obviously you don’t know if the resistance range is right without the relevant info., but if there are 2 identical ones on the machine that tells you. I don’t think I’ve ever found one where the resistance still varies with temp. but the range has changed. Does it happen?
    Thanks again for the article.
    Geoff

Yes Geoff, we do know that but, the article is intended for the public and I didnt want to get too technicle on that sort of stuff otherwise we will get asked about the correct resistance readings and stuff which, TBH we dont know. Not sure any of the hotpoint ones are identicle as they have different part numbers and plug colours. Not sure about the your last point, but I have had, on laundry anyway, thermistors that check out ok on a meter but fail in use, maybe temperature related failures?

As for Bob’s dog hairs, it was a frost free article rather than general refrigeration, maybe someone else may want to write that one?

If you order a new board, you get a cofig sheet with it. I am sure EMW or Qer would supply a copy for you. If not post your fax number and stock up on paper!

    Re: Hotpoint WMA46 problems

Rather than encourage you to do this, look at it another way. there is basicly only the switch and a board on that model, you have replaced one without success so it must be the other. The board itself is less than £60 but it will need configering so I would recommend an engineer. If you do try to test anything, ensure it is unplugged from the mains first.
