did any wires fall of the timer while you were fixing the belt ?
assume door sw works as you say timer stops when door is opened
is the heater coming on ?

if its under warranty then let them do it
if that is what it is you would have to take out the inner drum and lubricate the seal

found the resettable stat and its obsolete the other one does say special order so chance it may be not available too

just checked there is a few used ones on Ebay
never assume the new element is ok
if its a pattern element the odds are it could be faulty
try disconnecting the wires from the new element make sure they cant touch anything then turn it on and see if it trips then
if no its probably the new element
