if it the old model they have brass toc,s at rear , if newer model they have a heat/pressure micro switch built into sump hose … both accessed from rear lower panel..

the boards dont need to be configured.

well thats what i go on bryan , the ones ive been to the evap was frozen perfectly , – defo heater ok etc – change pcb and back at it within the month for cutting out and defrosting .

daewoo/connect tech advise regas ? .. ive only discovered this within the week as ive been on hols .

to me its a crok of crap .. but they are saying moisture in system is causing fault ..

    ohhh the joys ..

    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

we have an engineer with 15 years plus experience and an hnd in electronic engineering .

we also have an apprentice who has 10 months on the job training,

he is able to diagnose problems just as good as the more experienced engineer .

granted he may not be the polished article with regards to customer skills etc – but he can do 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of what a fully trained engineer can . all without city guilds etc ,

he probably has had 10 years of college courses all rolled up in 10 months of intense on the job training.

what i think would be good is a basic test that he would need to go get independently regards electrical safety- testing.
he knows his way around insulation testers earth loop , multi meters but it would be good to have an independent certificate

im not against learning – but it does need to be industry specific , having been on a few recently ive seen 1st hand how they grow arms and legs and end up wildly of the original intention due to academia trying to make sense of our industry applying their logic and procedures.

    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

we do work for specific manufacturers where some tech is good you speak to someone who knows what their talking about this makes a huge difference when you have exhausted all diagnostics , fault turns out to be a manufacturing issue that has just came on the radar ..

we have some manufacturers who have no tech , no wiring diagrams no fault codes and questionable electronics , cheap parts cheap appliances .

all i can do is compare the 2 and say the manufacturers who invest in technical come of better .

i maybe dont get the full picture with regards to manufacturers , i see engineers who get stuck and come to me for advice , since i still go out to calls i experience the faults they come across and understand the issues they sometimes face.

if you deal with older appliances insurance etc all the tech is on the market place and the info is plenty full, tech is not normally an issue .

however if you deal with new appliances you do come across all the weird and wonderful issues that manufacturers etc dream up in their quest to be NO 1 or sell cheap and cheerful units .

so yes ability to fault find diagnose prepare for the job types you have – call what you like their is still a need for relevant technical.

and of course the tech forum on here is a prime example of relevant tech – ie coming from people who are out in the field experiencing the issues that other engineers are inquiring about

    Re: City & Guilds 2359.

having done some training recently i would say it has some benefits as your never to old to learn (apart from ken)?.

the cons was the cost – ie the time of the road , traveling , hotels .. the last course i had 3 days off , 24 – 30 jobs .

what would be a better is decent relevant technical advice when you need it , ie in the customers house.

if you have basic fault finding skills you will always trace the fault , but throw in electronics, manufacturing errors – faulty parts is not so simple ..

as much as manufacturers and w/ps would like – engineers are not walking encyclopedias who have every service manual and fault code for every appliance.

im pretty sure that if the engineer was given the right advice/help as and when required we would have fewer write offs exchanges etc ..

engineers are not robots and only have a limited time to diagnose and repair normally arrive at the appliance to find out wrong fault has been reported or there’s another fault that customer forgot to mention.. or the fault is vague or intermittent or customer hasn’t a clue how to use it and thinks its faulty .

manufacturers and w/ps tend to forget what engineers have to put up with whilst doing there daily job.

invest in decent tech teams who are able to offer relevant info when its required would be a lot cheaper than training ..

when i say decent tech teams i mean dont put ex engineer on a help desk who hasnt seen an appliance for 5 years and reads from a service manual.

    cheers martin

will have another look , it funny you should say door lock

as it does lock makes a clunk sound … then about 5 seconds later it shows error code ..

customer is think about a new machine .. more money then sense its only 2.5 years old

i suppose they have internally identified a training need ..lol

i would guess as you said other industries will have the same issues.

…peanuts – monkeys maybe its time for manufacturer’s etc to cough up a better rate

    Re: Next Up On TV

i think with the american style fridge freezers there is defo an engineers fear of working on them , probably due to tech issues parts etc ,

a big factor for engineers is time – if they dont get it you will see calls bouncing about for the smallest reason ie lee8.s example of manu trained engineers failure to config a pcb .

they should be able to do it – but what stopped them – my guess more to do with pressure / time constraints not being able to stick around after the repair to do full test – explain to customer why prev engineer didn’t to this that and the next ..

hindsight, knowledge and time is great thing .

there is no excuse for engineers failing to the basics , but i think managing skill sets , repair schedules , times etc is a big factor on the outcome of a repair .
