ParticipantRe: Neff oven not heating properly
not an expert on this but if it was me working on my neff my first port of call would be to check out the thermal cut outs, your thermostat light should go out when it reaches the set temperature. does it go out ? and if it does, does it then start to get cool and come back on or stay off ?

ParticipantRe: No Parts Available If Retail Price Below £250?
yeh but thats down to “customer service”
at the end of the day theres no legality, but its how much you value your customers.
generally the higher the cost of service the more likely you will get a free call out. people offering very low priced labour/service will obviously be unable to offer such freebies otherwise they will go bust. simple economics really

A good kettle is say a Dualit or a Siemens, they cost £100 or thereabouts. K.A top end client had a faulty German appliance (Won`t name 😉 ) . The third one arrived along with a Porsche designed kettle.
That’ll be BSH then.
The kettle analogy vs large appliances is somewhat false. virtually all the brands are now built in the far east. the price you pay on these rarely affects the quality. look at it logically – a kettle is an element, a switch, a carcass, base, and lead.
there really shouldnt be a reason why they go wrong so often, or be so expensive but they do, and are. Essentially they are all the same inside, what you pay for is the name, and the style. obviously the more powerful elements are in the posher kettles, but you can get them in a cheaper plastic one too.
To be fair, ive found krups, bosch, and dualits all as likely to go wrong as a morphy richards, russell hobbs, or breville. you cant get spares for dualits or bosch, so why pay an extra £15-50? in fact, the most reliable kettle ive found so far are the philips and kenwoods. our best seller is the s/s philips jug for £35.

Just to pick your brains Jim, if the interlock had failed, would it still allow it to rotate the drum at all? Just i always thought if the interlock had failed it wouldnt allow any of the cycle to start, because its right at the beginning of the process?! or is it different on this model?

ParticipantRe: Benk
Chris, i never said it was how own branding worked 😉 although i can see i might have implied it unintentionally! Have now corrected inital post for that reason!
I just meant they looked like baumatics. also the model numbers on some are identical, which would suggest they would be of the same quality? cant see one brand allowing it to happen if another were to come along spec much lower quality components than hte other and then use the same model number… and sell it for less.
and im not going to quibble about the same carcass/different quality internals, because yes in a lot of cases it is correct, like the ISE’s for example. But on the flipside, a higher price tag for say an oven by Brand A supplied to kitchenfitters over say an equivalent spec oven from Brand B who market their ovens through various supply hcains like distributors and multiples and independant buying groups wont ensure this higher quality, in some cases the internals will just be identical, and you just happen to be paying a higher price on the oven because Brand A will shifting far less units than Brand B.
I just didnt want eggy to buy something and get stuck or ripped off on maintenance side

ParticipantRe: Befuddled – help please choosing upright fridge freezer
bosch will be expensive – £400 and a lot more upwards for a f/s 170+ f/f which isnt frostfree
gorenje is about the same price bracket, but you will tend to get a bit mroe room with their models.
one thing that hasnt been brought up that is wuite important is your width restriction, fridge freezers now come in 3 main widths, 48-50cm, 54-55cm, and 59.5-62.5cm
out of interest what is your maximum width available? because if it is under 59cm, it will drastically reduce your choice!

ParticipantRe: Benk
the benk own brands look like they are supplied by same people as baumatic.
if it was me, id pay the extra for my own choice of brands, and i wouldnt stick to all-elux either!
The baumatic built-in washing machines are now h a i e r sourced – so if this is the same for benk, I would avoid! I know baumatic built-in ovens have expensive maintenance spares, like fan elements, so if these benks are from the same factory again, i would avoid! and baumatic d/w are also now supplied by h a i e r i think, so again… i would avoid. my experience of baumatic gas hobs are cheap and flimsy, but tend to be high spec, so if they are also sourced from the same place as these benk hobs i wouldnt expect too much, and there are more solider brands for not much more.
if you decide not to go for the benk appliances, and you list what appliances you actually require for your property, and your overall budget for all the appliances, or what the total of what you would otherwise be spending on benk appliances would cost, we can help you out by suggesting alternative stock for similar price brackets.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WF541P very noisy when spinning
keep an eye on it – these were notorious for stripping the plasticy lugs on the drum. already had to drill through and bolt the weight on one machine, because otherwise the machine was a write-off… granted, it was a graded mode,l which i suspect its initial problem was therefore a loose weight, but all hotpoint did was add a bit of plastic padding filler, screw the screw in and send it back out. lasted 13 months and h/p didnt want to know when it went wrong.

they seem to be the most reliable…goosegreen wrote:Strangely enough, I have been out to 2 Baumatic cookers this week a BT2531 SS Range and a B721BLA Double oven. Hinges for the first and a base element for the second. Not bad quality by the looks of it and reasonable prices for the parts. Who makes Baumatic Cookers?
Because baumatic were primarily a cooking product brand, some of the cookers and ovens were built independantly, under contract to baumatics own specification. I believe this to be the case with their current f/s cookers. They wont be made in a baumatic factory, because there isnt one, so it will have been made in one of the “contract” factories like vestelle etc. which… i couldnt tell you, but if you ask baumatic which country each cooker was manufactured you should be able to work it out!
PS regarding spares – ive found some baumatic spares are a rip-off, some are actually cheap. worked out the basic rule of thumb with them is if its a rebadged/generic stock appliance the spares are ridiculously expensive – i.e. £60+ for a fan element! this is because they are buying the spares off the factory, and sticking them in their own bag (although not always) and then adding their handling fee onto it. If you can, get the donor manufacturers spares as you are cutting out one of the middlemen! for their own spec appliances the spares are relatively cheap, as you have already found out

ParticipantRe: Tefal Actifry
ages ago on watchdog i think it was they said they had modified certain parts to ensure it wasnt going to set itself on fire like the initial batch would.
might be worth harassing tefal about the diagrams as i cant see anyone else having access, and if they dont the only advice would be given based on trial and error…
